Measurements in everyday uses

1. General rules
a. Always abbreviate units when reporting numerical information.
b. Singular and plural units are abbreviated in the same way.
c. Always put a space between numbers and units.
d. 0.xxx = pronounce de “.” “point”
2. Height / tall
a. Foot (feet) - ft / inch (inches) - in
i. 6´2´´ (“six foot two” (inches)) – you use singular except you add the
word tall at the end.
b. Meter (meters) – m / centimeter (centimeters) – cm (in British English you can
find the word “metre” instead of meter)
i. 1 meter 88 centimeters / “a meter 88” / 188 centimeters
3. Weight
a. Pounds / libra = lb
b. Kilo / kilograms / gram = kg / g
c. Ounce = oz
4. Distance / length / size
a. Miles = 1 “mi” of this is equal to 1.6 kilometers.
b. Yards = “yd”

5. Liquid size
a. Liters / milliliter = l / ml (in British English you can find the word “litre” instead
of liter)
b. Gallon – US / UK = gal
6. Temperature
a. Degree Fahrenheit = ºF
b. Degree Celsius = ºC
