1.0 PURPOSE
The purpose of this method statement is to ensure that construction of Ducts is done in
accordance with the correct methods and procedures.

3.0 RESPONSIBILITIES
PM/DPM shall ensure that all necessary tools & Instruments, safety protective equipments
are provided along with properly trained and qualified surveyors and made
available sufficiently in advance to the commencement of the work.

Safety Officer has to implement and enforce all safety precautions. He will also inspect the work
site regularly, and report deficiencies to the DPM / PM.

Site Engineer is responsible for the construction work and shall delegate a named Site
Supervisor who shall ensure that this procedure is fully implemented including
documentation till completion.

Surveyor is responsible to ensure that all surveying instrument being used are calibrated
and having valid calibration certificate and he shall ensure that all information,
data etc. required is to be taken and recorded on his Field Book.

4.0 MATERIALS

1. Approved GRP Pipes & Fittings

5.0 ACTIONS

5.1 Ducts laying locations will be marked by contractor’s surveyor as per approved
drawings or as directed by the consultant/ADDC.
5.2 Excavation will be done in marked areas in required size as per approved drawings.

5.3 Formation will be properly compacted and shuttering will be provided in blinding portion.
Soil compaction test will be taken as per consultant instruction.

5.4 After the consultant approval of formation and shuttering, approved blinding concrete (Grade
20) will be poured inside the shuttering.

5.5 Required hooks will be fixed in blinding concrete as directed by consultant.

5.6 After blinding well curing, approved GRP pipes will be laid properly, tied and positioned as
per approved drawing.

5.7 Approved reinforcement will be used and tied around the pipes with proper cover as per
approved drawings.

5.8 Proper shuttering will be provided around the reinforcement and properly positioned.

5.9 After consultant approval of shuttering and reinforcement approved ready-mix concrete
(Grade C40 BS 8110) will be poured inside the shuttering and use internal vibrator for
proper compaction.

5.10 At site, when concrete pouring, required test (temperature, slump, cube etc.) will be taken in
the presence of consultant/ADDC.

5.11 Ducts both ends shall be closed with pre-cast concrete end caps as per approved drawing
and it will be sealed as per contract specification.

5.12 After well curing, Ducts will be painted externally with two coats of Bituminous paint at total
thickness of 300microns.
