1.0 INTRODUCTION

This method statement describe the method and procedures for launching the precast
deck beam for the road bridge.

The launching layout and other relevant information on machinery and equipment used
in this work are included.

2.0 MATERIALS

2.1 Precast Deck Beam

The precast beam will be cast prior to the launching and the required design
strength achieved prior to the launching.

The position for the precast beam on the crosshead and abutment shall be
marked on the precast beam before launching.

3.2 EQUIPMENT

· 1 unit 65 tonne and 1 unit of 40 tonne crawler/mobile crane

4.0 METHOD

4.1 Work Access And Area

· The working access and platform shall be levelled and compacted to form a
firm ground.
· Steel plate shall be provided at soft locations whenever it is necessary where
heavy machine will operate

4.2 Launching Sequence

· Audit survey shall be carry out for the top level of crosshead and abutment
where precast beams rest.
· The precast beam will be transported from casting yard to designed location by
trailers.
· The rubbers bearing shall be placed to the position marked by the surveyor
prior to launching.
· 1 no of 65 tonne and 40 tonne crawler/mobile crane will be used to hoist up the
precast beam from the trailer.
· Two general workers will be designated on each side of the crossbeam to guide
the precast beam to its correct position.
· The beam will be launched and placed on to the bearing pad planted in the
abutment bankseat. Any clashing starter bars will be bent by the barbenders
instantly to enable the precast beam to be placed on the crossbeams.
· The launching precast beam panel sequence will be from Span 2, Span 1
followed by Span 3 of the bridge (Appendix 1).
· Precast beam Type 2 shall be launched first, followed by Type 1 and Type 3
(Appendix 2).

5.0 HEALTH, SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENT

5.1 Working Hour


Lineblock is required for the launching of Span 2 only. During launching of the
precast deck beam, the beam will only be lifted when the track is clear of trains.
A PICOW will supervise the works. All KTMB regulations regarding
lineblocks will be adhered to.

5.2 Regulations
All site activities shall comply strictly with KTM regulations and requirement.
Before commencement of works all relevant staff will be briefed and trained to
comply with KTMB regulations. All staff will also be familiar with the
Construction Crisis Team’s Handbook.

5.3 Launching Safety Briefing


A safety briefing will be conducted by the launcher prior to the launching to
ensure that all people involved are familiar with the works (Designed Launcher
will be fully in charge during the launching activity). The safety officer will
then brief the workers on the general hazards of beam launching.

5.4 Equipment Checks


The safety officer will check and ensure that all cranes are with valid PMA and
fully operational and that there is no irregularities prior to the launching. The
launching will be halted if any irregularities are observed.

5.5 General Safety


All workers are to wear High Visibility Vest (Orange colour), safety helmet
and safety shoes within KTMB Right Of Way (ROW). All safety issues will be
governed by the Health and Safety Plan and adhered to strictly. The crane
operator must possess a valid certificate of competency on crane operation.

5.6 Environment Issues


The Environmental Management Plan will be adhered to strictly on site.
