A Detailed Lesson Plan

In Science for Grade 7 Students

November 4, 2019
by: Amriha D. Bani

I. OBJECTIVE
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to describe the motion in
terms of speed, solve problems to about speed and relate speed in real life
scenarios.
II. SUBJECT MATTER
A. Topic: Speed

B. References:

K-12 Science Curriculum Guide

Grade 7 Science Learner’s Material

C. Instructional Materials:

marker, cartolina, manila paper

D. Value Integration:

Cooperating, Collaborating, Understanding, Analyzing, Reasoning

E. Science Concept:

Speed refers to the rate of change in distance.

III. LEARNING ACTIVITIES

TEACHER’S ACTIVITY LEARNERS’ ACTIVITY

A. Preliminary Activities

(students arrange their chairs

Good Morning Class! Before we start, please
and pick up the papers and
arrange your chairs and pick up the papers and
trash under your chair. trash)

May I request someone to lead the prayer? (students praying)

How are you today class? We are fine maam

Did you enjoy your day? Yes maam
Before we start to our next lesson, I will remind
you to our Classroom Rules. Our classroom rules
are LCR, L stands for Listen. C stands for
Cooperate and R stands for raise your hand.
Always listen, cooperate to our class activities
and raise your hand if you want to answer the Yes maam
question, if you want to ask question and if you
want to ask permission from me to go outside.
But of course you are only allowed to go outside if
it is an important matter. Are we clear class?

B. Review Lessons

What was our lesson last meeting? It’s about distance and
displacement.

(student answering the

What is distance? question)

(student answering the

What is displacement? question)

(student answering the

What is the definition of motion? question)
What is the quantity of distance? How about (student answering the
displacement? question)

Do you have any question about distance and None maam

displacement?

C. Lesson Proper

1. Motivation

Before we start to our topic, we will have a fun

game first. Did you have any idea about fun run? (students participating to
Did you participate in fun run that is conducted by activity)
your schools or in your community? This time we
will have a fun walk instead of fun run outside
your classroom. You need to work by pair, the
one will observe and gather data by measuring
distance using meter stick and measure the time
covered on the walk using stopwatch. While the
other one will walk fast as he/she can. You will
have 2 trials, one trial will have a specific
distance, while the other trial will have a specific
time.
(pair of students will do the activity, they will save
their data for the next activity).

2. Presentation

Our lesson for today is all about speed and

velocity.

These are the objectives for this lesson, everyone

please read.

At the end of the lesson, the learners will be able

to describe the motion of an object in terms of
speed, solve problems related speed and relate
the speed in real life scenarios.
(students reading the
(Discuss the objectives further) objectives)

Do you understand class?

3. Discussions Yes, maam

Let’s unlock some terms:

Scalars - are quantities that are fully described by

a magnitude (or numerical value) alone.

Vectors - are quantities that are fully described

by both a magnitude and a direction.
First, we will discuss what is speed.

Anna please read the definition of speed.

Speed is a scalar quantity (magnitude) refers as

distance travelled divided by the time of travel.
(Anna will read the definition)
The formula of speed is:

Speed = distance travelled (d)

time of travel (t)

the units of speed can be miles per hour (mi/hr),

kilometers per hour (km/hr) or meters per second
(m/s).

At constant distance, how is speed related to the

time travel?
At a constant time to travel, how is speed related ( student answering the
to the distance travelled? question)
Who was travelling faster than the other, a person
who covered 10 meters in 5 seconds or the one ( student answering the
who took 10 seconds to cover 20 meters? question)

We will solve some problems to understand ( student answering the

further about speed. question)

a) Anna walks 10m in 5s, what is Anna’s

speed?
Given:
d = 10m t = 5s
Find: S?
Formula: S = d
t
Solution: S = 10m = 2m/s
5s

b) Greg runs 7m in 20s. What is Greg’s

speed?
Given:
d = 7m t = 20s
Find: S?
Formula: S = d
t
Solution: S = 7m_ = 0.35 m/s
20s

D. Generalization
Define what is speed?
Yes, Cherry Refers to the rate of change
in distance.

What is the formula of speed?

Yes, Aubrey Speed ( S ) = distance ( d )
time ( t )

What is the quantity of the speed?

It is a scalar quantity.
Yes Naura?
What is the units of speed?
meter per second ( m/s ),
Yes, Luna? kilometer per hour ( km/hr )
and miles per hour ( mi/hr )

Give yourself, a barangay clap

IV. EVALUATION
