HOUSE RULES

PRELIMINARIES

Get dressed – be professional and courteous by dressing appropriately

2. Check your IT equipment, sounds and video and connectivity

● Check that your computer is functioning, check that headphones, microphones,

internet connection, etc. are all up and running before the meeting start time.
● Please be conscious of what you have on your computer desktop when you
share screens during these virtual sessions. Close things you don’t want to be
seen and make sure that you are sharing only things that need to be shared and
not your personal information.

3. Be aware of your surroundings

• Lighting:
* When you are using a platform where you are video enabled make sure you
use as much light as possible.
* Avoid having the majority of the light behind you (if the light is behind you,
all your colleagues will see is a silhouette.
* Be mindful that ceiling fans can create a strobe effect
• Location.
*Choose a location that is free of distractions for you and your co-workers.
• Make sure your background is appropriate for a business situation: Don’t
embarrass yourself in front of your co-workers.
That means:
* Make sure your co-workers don’t see piles of dirty clothes
* Remove inappropriate posters or knick-knacks
* Children running wildly through the house

4. Attendance

• Be Punctual:
● Arrive on time to each session
● Join the meeting on time or a few minutes early
● Make sure you are in a quiet area
● If joining after the meeting has started, wait for the conference leader
to ask who joined

5. Participation

• Speak slowly and clearly

• Speak louder than you normally talk:
Make sure your voice carries so it is picked up on your microphone

Don’t be afraid to project your voice, too!

Your team will appreciate being able to hear you without having to strain
their ears or turn their volume all the way up.

● Be Considerate
Be considerate! Don’t Interrupt! Let other people speak, then when they're
done, speak, and when finished, mute your mic and give the floor to
someone else.
● Mute your microphone when you are not talking
o Eliminate all conversations not intended for everyone. This will improve both
our experience and overall training efficiency
● Leave the keyboard alone!
* The sound of your typing could distract others who are in the same meeting
* If you need to take notes, use a pen and a notebook
● Respect Diversity:
o Your virtual classroom should be, without question, a safe space for
people of all races, genders, sexes, ages, sexual orientations, religions,
disabilities and socioeconomic statuses
