For Carbon Steel: Product D is applicable only to Zone I. Seal and shoulder area (Zone II) are
not coated.
For CRA: Zone I and Zone II shall be covered with Product D. Shoulder area is not coated with
Product D.
Note: Thread crest, thread root and seal surfaces shall be covered with Product D (Zone I).

· 100% inspection of both pins and boxes shall be performed on all rig returned
material.
· For material which is already in stock, it is recommended to inspect 10% of the pins
and 10% of the box ends every 6 months.
o If Product B is NOT available and Point 4.2 indicates repairing with Product B,
segregate damaged connections. It is recommended to send them to a Tenaris
licensed repair shop for Dopeless® coating refurbishment. Refer to:
http://www.tenaris.com/TenarisHydril/en/threaders/default.aspx for licensed
network.
· Do not use high pressure water jet, brushes or any other mechanical methods for
cleaning.
Page Number 8
· If compressed air is available, the threads can be air blasted after cleaning. This
operation is not mandatory but recommended.
· Check and clean the I.D. of pipe to eliminate foreign matter which could otherwise
contaminate the box connection while stabbing. If compressed air is available it is
recommended to air blast from box to pin side.
· Carefully remove the corrosion with the use of soft Scotch Brite
or similar.
E Slight Corrosion
· Apply Products B and C to the PIN.
· Carefully remove the flakes with the use of soft Scotch Brite or
Abnormal Bright Areas / similar.
F
Flakes
· Apply Products B and C to the PIN only to the affected areas.

DEFECT CATEGORIES:
A. Discoloration:
Actions:
· Remove stains with a clean rag.
· Apply Product C on the affected areas.
· Install a clean thread protector (Dopeless® design).

This effect is generated when water contacts the pin or box connections, emulsifying product C.
Actions:
C. Product D Removal:
Some areas could present flaking or other forms of Product D removal as shown in the
following images:
Page Number 11
Actions:
· If the removed area represents less than approximately 20% of the total
surface area the connection can be repaired on location. Remove the flakes
or excess of Product D either with compressed air or Scotch Brite.
If more than 20% has been removed the connection should be rejected or sent
to a Tenaris licensed repair shop for full Dopeless® coating refurbishment.
Refer to: http://www.tenaris.com/TenarisHydril/en/threaders/default.aspx for
licensed network.
· Apply Product C on the affected areas.
· Install a clean thread protector (Dopeless® design).
After make up / break out operations and or when installing / removing the protectors, bright
areas will eventually appear in the thread and or seal areas.

Actions:
· There’s no need to apply product C to the connections at the rig site that are
broken out, inspected OK and immediately re run again.
· If pipes/couplings will be stored, apply Product C on the affected areas of the
connections.
· Install a clean thread protector (Dopeless® design).
E. Slight Corrosion
Slight corrosion covers small parts of the total threaded area. It is recommended to use soft
Scotch Brite or similar to remove it.
Page Number 13
Actions:
· Clean with a rag
· Carefully remove the corrosion with the use of a soft Scotch Brite or similar.
· Apply Products B and C to the PIN on the affected areas.
· Apply ONLY Product C to the BOX on the affected areas.
· Install a clean thread protector (Dopeless® design).
Abnormal bright areas and flaking caused by protector removal or other reasons, as shown
in the following images.
Actions:
· Carefully remove the Flakes with the use of a soft Scotch Brite or similar.
· Apply Products B and C to the PIN on the affected areas.
· Install a clean thread protector (Dopeless® design).

G. Severe Corrosion:
Severe corrosion is when a large part of the thread is affected by corrosion. This type of
corrosion is deeper and needs mechanical removal.
Actions:
· No field repair allowed.
· Pipe shall be submitted to a Tenaris licensed repair shop for the refurbishment of the
damaged Dopeless® treatment. Refer to:
http://www.tenaris.com/TenarisHydril/en/threaders/default.aspx for licensed network.
· Apply Product C using paint-spray gun. During the application, leave a 30 cm distance
between the gun and the connection.
Page Number 15
o Note: At Rig Sites Product B does not need to be cured if pipe is going to
be run immediately after its application.
· Product C will cure at room temperature. It is recommended to leave it to dry for at least
2 hours before installing the thread protector.
4) Apply Product B.
3) Gently clean with soft Scotch Brite.

· Check that the rubber rings are not adhered to the shoulder of the pin or box connection
as shown in the following pictures. If this situation happens, remove the rubber rings.
