2. PURPOSE
2.1 The Purpose of this document is to explain the recommended and how to determined the
correct contact points for measuring tools when performing inspection of TenarisHydril
Wedge connections requiring measuring contact points.

7.1 Personnel qualification is defined in the most current revision of TenarisHydril document
TSH-GP-00.0003.
8. PROCEDURES
8.1 Measuring instruments, where contact balls are required to measure inspection characteristic
in the thread roots contacting either of the thread flanks shall be all the same size in diameter,
being approximately the same size of the thread height of the connection being inspected.
The minimum contact ball, radius of the ball, size shall not be smaller than the root radius of
the product. The maximum contact ball, radius of ball, shall not be so large that it contacts
the product crest radius. Visually verify that all of the contact balls contacts the thread flanks
being inspected. Verify the shank of the contact balls does not contact any other feature of
the threads being inspected. Table 9.1 provides recommended contact ball sizes.
8.2 Measuring instruments, where contact balls are required to measure inspection
characteristic, thread crest to thread crest, may standardize on 0.125 minimum diameter ball
of all the same size for all Wedge Series 500™ products.
8.3 Measuring instruments, where contact points requiring Swivel feet (shoes) are required the
minimum length requirement is 1.000 inch all the same size.
