3.1 This document is applicable to all:

3.1.1 All Tenaris Premium Connections Manufacturing Services Personnel.
3.1.2 Facilities licensed to thread TenarisHydril connections.

4. REFERENCES

4.1 Not Applicable.

5. DEFINITIONS AND ABBREVIATIONS

5.1 Definitons and Abbreviations are defined in the most current revision of TenarisHydril document
TSH-GP-00.0001.

5.2 Visible (Non-detectable): Imperfections that can be seen but may not be necessarily felt with
fingertips, finger-nails, or the tip of a 0.5mm pencil.

5.3 Detectable: Visible imperfections that can be felt with the fingertips, fingernails, or the tip of a
0.5mm pencil.

6. RESPONSIBILITIES

6.1 Responsibilities are defined in the most current revision of TenarisHydril document
TSH-GP-00.0002.

7. PERSONNEL QUALIFICATION

7.1 Personnel qualification is defined in the most current revision of TenarisHydril document
TSH-GP-00.0003.

8. PROCEDURES

8.1 Inspection
The following criteria shall apply to the connection length.

Note: The use of "sharp tips" to evaluate areas of the thread is prohibited. Brass tips may be
used as an aid for inspection to locate discontinuities but shall not be used to determine
acceptance or rejection.

Burrs and sharp edges shall be removed from the starting thread in the Pin and Box. Filing or
buffing marks on the starting thread is acceptable.

Verification of burr removal shall be made using a soft cloth, paper towel, or similar material that
will snag or tear on the burrs if they are not completely removed. Additionally, a threading insert

shall be used as a template to ensure that no burrs have been rolled over into the thread form
during the removal process.

ScotchBrite pad # 7447 or similar shall be used for hand dressing minor imperfections in the
thread and seal areas as permitted by this specification.

Any removal of thread imperfections shall be performed in a circumferential direction and over a
generous portion of the circumference.

Visually inspect the inside of the products to ensure that all metallic chips and shavings have
been removed.

8.2 Acceptance / Rejection Criteria

8.2.1 Components to be inspected on Pin Connections

8.2.1.1 Thread Roots and load Flanks

- No Detectable chatter or steps
- No visible laps, seams, or cracks allowed in the thread area
- No visible laps, seams, or cracks in any thread root
- No grinding allowed - Hand dressing as defined above only
- Wedge threads may have a 0.002” step in root of thread due to multiple threading
passes

8.2.1.2 Thread Crests in Perfect Thread Area, stabbing Flanks and all Radii

- Visible chatter that does not intersect the thread load flanks is acceptable
- Minor transition steps (< 0.001") at the intersection of the stab flank radius and
crest plane are acceptable. The radius (at this intersection) shall be below the
thread crest plane. (See note below)

Note: On TenarisHydril Wedge Threads, and Legacy Technologies such as SLX,

Mac-II, PJD, PH-4, PH-6, and CS. the above mentioned step is not
allowed.

- Visible laps, seams, or cracks on the crest shall be removed (by hand dressing)
as described above. Metal removal shall not extend past the crest radius into the
thread flank area.

8.2.1.3 Cylindrical Threads Crest (Non Full Formed Threads)

- It is important to ensure that any raised edges are smooth

8.2.1.4 Torque Shoulder

- No detectable chatter
- No detectable steps
- No visible seams, laps, or cracks
- No grinding permitted (hand dressing as stated above only)

8.2.1.5 Nose Radius

- No detectable chatter
- No detectable steps
- No visible seams, laps, or cracks

8.2.1.6 Metal to Metal Seal surfaces (if applicable)

- No visible chatter
- No visible seams, laps, or cracks
- No detectable steps
- No detectable scratches (Burnishes or visible scratches created by a properly
applied gage are not cause for rejection as long as they are removed by hand
dressing as described in section 8.1 and seal is re-blued in accordance with
TSH-IP-00.0074 for product requiring bluing of seals.)

8.2.1.7 Bore
- No visible seams, laps, or cracks are allowed. Imperfections shall be removed by
grinding or machining provided dimensional and finish requirements are
maintained. Grinding shall be smooth and blended into the ID surface.

8.2.1.8 Groove (if applicable)

- Detectable chatter is acceptable
- Detectable steps are acceptable
- No visible seams, laps, or cracks

8.2.1.9 Non-Metallic Inclusions

See applicable Connection Procedure.

8.2.2 Components to be inspected on Box Connections

8.2.2.1 Thread load Flanks and Crests

- No detectable chatter or steps
- No visible seams, laps, or cracks
- No grinding permitted - Dressing as defined above only

8.2.2.2 Thread Roots, stabbing flank and Radii

- Visible (Non-detectable) chatter that does not intersect the thread load flanks is
acceptable
- No steps greater than 0.001” in root for TenarisHydril Blue family products.
- Wedge threads may have a 0.002” step in root of thread due to multiple threading
passes.
- No visible seams, laps, or cracks
- No grinding permitted - Dressing as defined above only

8.2.2.3 Metal to Metal Seal Surfaces (if applicable)

- Detectable longitudinal scratches are not acceptable and not repairable.
- No visible and/or detectable chatter.
- No steps.
- No visible seams, laps, or cracks.
- No marks from the threading insert are allowed.
- No grinding or polishing with Power equipment is allowed. Circumferential "hand
dressing" with ScotchBrite or similar is permitted.

8.2.2.4 Torque Shoulder and Radius

- No detectable chatter or steps
- No visible seams, laps, or cracks
- No grinding permitted - Dressing as defined above only

8.2.2.5 Cylindrical Crest Diameter

- No visible seams, laps, or cracks
- Deburr as stated above

Note: On Connections with thread vanishing into a Groove, the transition from the
groove into the Cylindrical Crest Diameter shall be carefully inspected and
deburred as necessary.

8.2.2.6 Groove (if applicable)

- Detectable chatter and steps are acceptable
- Small threading marks are allowed
- No visible seams, laps, or cracks

8.2.2.7 Box OD, Bevel, and Face

- Visible seams, laps, cracks, or other surface imperfections shall be dispositioned
in accordance to API 5CT and/or to the Connection Procedure.
- Grinding or machining to remove imperfections is allowed provided remaining OD
and surface finish as stated on the drawing are maintained. Grinding shall be
generously blended into the OD surface.
- Minor dings or nicks only affecting the OD or external bevel are acceptable and
shall be "smoothed" out if necessary.
