2. PURPOSE

2.1 The Purpose of this document is to explain how the measurement of the Pin Thread Taper is
performed by one of the taper measuring options listed below for TenarisHydril Wedge Threads.

3. PERSONS AFFECTED

3.1 This document is applicable to all:

3.1.1 All Tenaris Premium Connections Manufacturing Services Personnel.
3.1.2 Facilities licensed to thread TenarisHydril connections.

4. REFERENCES

4.1 Not Applicable.

5. DEFINITIONS AND ABBREVIATIONS

5.1 Definitions and Abbreviations are defined in the most current revision of TenarisHydril document
TSH-GP-00.0001.

6. RESPONSIBILITIES

6.1 Responsibilities are defined in the most current revision of TenarisHydril document
TSH-GP-00.0002.

7. PERSONNEL QUALIFICATION

7.1 Personnel qualification is defined in the most current revision of TenarisHydril document
TSH-GP-00.0003.

8. PROCEDURES

Thread taper, due to the different leads of the load and stab flanks, the taper generated when
manufacturing is compound.

8.1 Inspection

8.1.1 Measurement:by Blade Micrometer

8.1.1.1 A Blade Micrometer is used to establish Pin Thread Taper on TenarisHydril Wedge
Pin threads by comparing root to crest measurements. The measurements are
made in line with each other, and are spaced four (4) full form threads apart. The
difference between the two measurements indicates the diametrical change in
size.

When four (4) full form threads are not available, due to black crested threads, the
Taper shall be measured two (2) full form threads apart. The nominal Taper and
Tolerance for two full form threads will be half of the Taper and Tolerances
specified for four (4) full form threads.

8.1.1.2 Drawing Example: Taper Inspection by Blade Micrometer

8.1.2 Measurement by Single MRP Gauges

8.1.2.1 Two MRP gauges having two (2) ball contacts of the same size mounted on
adjustable arms. One (1) contact ball shall be moveable and the other contact ball
fixed is used to establish the thread taper.

One gauge is set up using the A, B, and C dimensional requirements located on

the licensee Product drawing. This is the same MRP Gauge set up for the thread
diameter.

One gauge is set up using the D, E, and F dimensional requirements located on

the licensee Product drawing.

Place the stationary contact of the MRP gauge on the thread crest in line with the
standard line on the pin OD established by the end of part gaging methods, (see
end of part inspection). Using the MRP set to the A, B, and C dimensional
requirements sweep the indicator side of the MRP gage across the thread crest
180 degrees around the connection. The reading will be a representation of the
actual thread diameter size and the standard reading for the next step. Apply the
MRP taper gage set to the D,E and F dimensional requirements in the same
manner at the specified distance. The indicator reading from this step shall be

within the tolerances indicated on the Inspection Report with the standard reading
previously established

8.1.1.2 Drawing Example: Taper Inspection by Single MRP

8.1.3 Measurement by Dual MRP Gauges (TenarisHydril Taper Standard required)

Note: Not all TenarisHydril Wedge gauges sets contain a taper standard. If the gage set
provided does not contain a taper standard then this option is not applicable for use, select
one of the options listed above.

8.1.3.1 Two MRP Gauges with a TenarisHydril supplied taper standard is another option
for measuring the pin taper. Two MRP gages having swivel contact shoes. Shoe
length shall be long enough that the swivel contact shoes rest across two threads
minimum 360 degrees around the connection.

8.1.3.2 The contact shoe or leg length setting of each gage is set by using the grooves cut
in the OD of the pin taper standard. The MRP gages are installed on the OD of the
pin taper standard and the indicators set to zero. An error in taper is indicated by
the difference in indicator reading between the two MRP gages when placed on
the product.

Note: 1) Tubing products with seals require a spacer plate for setting gages.

2) Products allowing black crested threads require using the two shortest
setting grooves. The taper tolerance is reduced to a half for this
setting.

8.1.3.3 Drawing Example: Taper Inspection by Dual MRP

8.1.4 In some cases the gaging method on the Inspection Report contains no numerical data for
a specified method. For these cases the associated gaging method may be available for
use, however, formal written authorization shall be sent to licensees@oilfield.tenaris.com
for approval.

8.2 Acceptance / Rejection criteria

Taper inspection is acceptable if the measured values are within the values specified in the
Inspection Report.

8.3 Records
The result of these inspections shall be recorded on the IR.
