Sentence is a group of words expressing a complete thought. It begins


with a capital letter and ends with a period, a question mark, or an exclamatory
point.

Any group of words not expressing a complete thought is a sentence


fragment. It is not a sentence.

Two sentences or more written as one sentence form, is a run-on


sentence.

Write C if the sentence is complete and RO if it is a run-on sentence. Indicate


where a period should be placed in the run-on sentence and what word should be
capitalized. The first one has been done for you.

WHAT IS IT?

Sentences according to form are classified as: simple, compound, complex


and compound-complex.

1. A simple sentence contains only one subject and one predicate.


2. A compound sentence consists of two or more simple sentences put
together.

3. A complex sentence consists of one main clause and one or more
subordinate clause. In this sentence, the subordinate clause is always
used as a noun or a modifier. If it is used as modifier, the subordinate
clause modifies a word in the main clause.
4. Compound-complex sentence consists of two or more principal clause and
one or more subordinate clauses.
