A Semi- Detailed Lesson Plan in English 10

I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
a. identify the parts and features of an argumentative essay;
b. develop the value of determination in composing argumentative essay; and
c. compose an argumentative essay.

II. Subject Matter:


Topic: Argumentative Essay
Reference/s: English 10 Learners Material
Materials: laptop, television, power point presentation, visual aids, paper and pen
III. Procedure:
A. Preliminary Activities
 Prayer
(The assigned student will lead the prayer.)
 Greetings
 Checking of Attendance
(The secretary of the class will check the attendance.)
 Review of the Previous Lesson
(The teacher will call a student to recap the previous lesson.)

B. Motivation
Paint Me a Picture!

-The teacher will divide the class into 5 groups.


-Each group will present/form a picture showing a scenario of riding in a
public transportation vehicle with an aggressive/reckless driver.

Processing Questions:

1. Have you ever experienced riding in a public transportation with an aggressive


driver?

2. If yes, then what did you feel?

3. Did you argue with the driver?

C. Lesson Proper

 Activity
-The teacher will distribute handouts about “Aggressive Driving
Should be Avoided.”
-With the same groupings, the students will read the selection and
do the prepared activity after reading..
Activity # 1: I Saw the Sign!
Create a friendly reminder/ signage on motorists’ safety while driving.

 Analysis

What did you notice to what you have read and done?
What did you observe to the selection you just have read?
Did the author convince you for what he said?
What kind of essay is the selection that you have just read?

(The teacher will give the students an idea that they just have read
an example of an Argumentative essay and were already creating an
argument.)

What is an Argumentative Essay?

An argumentative essay is a piece of writing that takes a stance


on an issue. In a good argumentative essay, a writer attempts to
persuade readers to understand and support their point of view about a
topic by stating their reasoning and providing evidence to back it up.

An argumentative essay has the following characteristics: presents


and explains the issue or case,

Introduction:

The first paragraph is the introductory paragraph. It introduces the


problem and gives the background information necessary for the argument
and the thesis statement.

Hook- it is the sentence that gets the reader’s attention. It should


be powerful and eye catching.
Thesis Statement-is it the main argument or the main point.
Body:

The body paragraphs contain the reasons. Each paragraph talks


about one reason. The reason is stated in the topic sentence and is
supported by supporting details or materials. These supporting materials
can be either examples, statistics, personal experiences, or quotations.

Conclusion:

The conclusion restates the main claim and presents one or two
general statements which accurately summarize the arguments which
support the main premise.

(The teacher will split up the class into 5 groups.)
From the essay “Aggressive Driving Should be avoided”, identify its parts by
writing the essential statements.
