A. INTRODUCTION
This report highlights the experience from the actual Internship 2. In this report, I mainly
draw upon my 3 months’ work experience that I have gathered as an Intern at Nguyen
Hoang Group, located in Ho Chi Minh city. This report included my own reflection on
three seminars and the interpreting simulation conference conducted by Faculty of
English Linguistics and Literature, HCMVNU USSH. Later, I have included some
constructive suggestions. The conclusion is given in the last lines.
B. REPORT ON THE ACTUAL PRACTICUM AT THE COMPANY
1. The background of the internship company:
Nguyen Hoang Group, founded in 1999, is an international education service provider with 50
state-of-the-art campuses of the self-contained education system from Kindergarten to
Ph.D all over the nation. Nguyen Hoang Group has developed with the mission statement
that is to provide a student-centered learning environment which inspires students to
become responsible global citizens and life-long learners whose graduates value integrity,
cultural diversity, and the pursuit of academic excellence and patriotism. 1 This really
impressed me, and I also found that their mission important and relevant to my future
career in relation to education, so I decided to apply for an Intern here.
2. Self-acquirements:
I had worked as an e-Learning Producer at K-12 Marketing strategy Department of Nguyen
Hoang Group from April 2nd to June 30th, 2019. My key role was to produce eLearning
training courses for the Marketing and Sales staff. I supported conducting the operation
plans with academic affair expertise. After our discussion, I set up the meetings, assisting
in checking scripts and explicit ideas for the Vietnamese trainers and foreign ones before
and during the filming process. I also directly worked with the technical expertise to
create and track the interactive activities and exercises with video sequences as needed to
work seamlessly with make courses no errors. Sometimes, I was asked to translate and
make subtitles of a couple of videos. Besides, I was responsible for email, facilities
preparation and other tasked assigned by my superior.

2.1. Knowledge:
Language skills: This internship offered me an opportunity to broaden my listening and
speaking skills because I communicated with many people whose nationality and English
accent was various, which is the best environment for me to practice my English.
Marketing Basics: While researching and planning the education pathways for Marketing and
Sales staff, I self-studied Promotion, and my supervisor taught me well about the basis of
Marking and Sales. According to this, I recognized that Sales is not my interest, but the
knowledge is generally useful for my future career development.
Office software and facilities: The assigned tasks such as emailing or designing proposals, etc.
broaden my knowledge of Microsoft Office such as Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
Besides, the internship has equipped me with the more knowledge related to working
environment like how to use a photocopier which I should have obtained in class English
for Business Office.
2.2. Skills:
Communication skills: During my internship, producing an eLearning required effective
collaboration with other teams’ members, which developed my communication skills. I
comprehend that small talk plays a vital role in the working environment because it keeps
the colleagues closer, and it enables me to manage to make connections with many
people who may give me a hand in my work and my life in the future.
Organizational skills: Moreover, I learnt more about ability to independently research as well
as organizational and planning skills including time management skills. It was required
some knowledge and skills to be Marketing or Sales staff, so I needed to research and
build an educational pathway to career growth. For illustration, I considered what skills
or knowledge that the employees need to acquire and develop in every period.
Additionally, because one course included more than 4 videos and many trainers, I
needed to make sure that no schedule conflict happened between the trainers, cameramen
and the studio while arranging the filming schedule. Therefore, I will easily deliver high-
quality work on time and reduce tensions if I manage the time well.

Problem-solving skills: One day, I was informed that the cameraman forgot to book the studio
while the trainers were coming, I immediately looked for a meeting room in our building
and let them know the changes, and then I assisted in setting up of the equipment for
filmmaking. Luckily, this is a successful working day. The skills are believed to be good
for me to identify the problem, structuring it and immediately look for acceptable
solutions when making simultaneous or consecutive interpretation in any conference.
2.3. Attitude:
My supervisor always reminded me of attitude at the workplace by repeating Ralph Marston’s
statement: “Excellence is not a skill. It is an attitude.” Therefore, I constantly strive to
give my best effort. First of all, I changed my narrow mind and begin to be proactive and
goal oriented with strong willingness to learn and constantly improve. Because, through
my self-observation, the boss dislikes the talkative employees, I stopped gossip and do
well all my repetitive tasks apart from an exception. At the end of the 6 th week, a trainer
had her lesson filmed, and I was off. I had asked my teammate to cover before, but I
forgot to inform her. Though the video was successfully filmed, I received some bad
comments. This experience helped me to be more responsible and punctual, and I learned
that I should support myself rather than expecting the others.
At university, I was told to be formal in the business environment; however, at Nguyen Hoang
Group, I was asked to be more open and warm when making conversation with people
including the colleague, the trainers and even the partners. Thus, I understand that it
should be flexible in different environments.
C. EXPERIENCES FROM THE INTERNSHIP:
Besides the experience as an Intern at NHG, I had sufficiently attended three seminars and the
interpreting simulation conference organized by the faculty. This is the first time I have
been an interpreter at the conference, thus I applied what the speakers shared in the
seminars in preparation and practiced as much as possible. In this period, many obstacles
came in, letting me define myself. The theoretical knowledge that I acquire was not put
into practice to become my skills. As a result, I mispronounce and make grammar
mistakes such as a child learning to speak. The conference succeeded in exposing me to

several challenges in interpretation and how the challenge can be overcome. As an
interpreter, he must possess a wide range of vocabulary or terminologies that I am still
lacking. He should be good at non-verbal communication. If he can put his confidence in
the facial expression, voice or eye contact, then people can easily believe in the
interpretation. Unfortunately, I can bear feeling unconfident, and then I begin speaking
faster and ignore pronunciation or grammar. There is no doubt that it seriously affects
how the audience listens and how successful the conference is. Thus, I should spend more
time on building vocabularies, practice pronunciation and language skills as well as soft
skills.
D. RECOMMENDATIONS:
According to my observation, I would like to offer some recommendations aimed at general
improvement.
First, the credits of interpreting should be increased before the internship. Only 60 periods of
Interpreting 1 are not sufficient for the students to gain enough knowledge, skills and
practical experience that required to be applied to the simulation conference.
Second, the degree of expertise of the article should be equal. It was easy to recognize the
inequalities that existed in the degree of expertise of the article, so the teams might get an
unfair evaluation. Because the students were studying the first course of interpreting
while we are preparing for the interpreting conference, I found the topic of literature
(including poems) extremely difficult to interpret.
Last but not least, the lessons conducted by CLC is involved in Using technology in translation,
which is a big waste of time and money, so I would like to suggest that either of them
should be removed from the BA programs.
E. CONCLUSION
On the whole, the internship has been a golden opportunity despite challenges and drawbacks
mentioned above. I got an insight into the professional working environment and
achieved several of my learning goals including knowledge, soft skills and attitude at the
workplace. It enabled me to find out my strengths and weaknesses according to which I
have a plan of action in the last semester before graduation.
