1.0 ABSTRACT:

The following pages contain the report with analysis, prepared from the thorough study of the
Geotechnical investigation.
A complete Geo technical investigation work was undertaken to obtain the required
subsurface information to study and define the nature and behavior of soil under the
application of loads of proposed structures. Such information was obtained through following
steps:
• Drilling bore holes and collecting disturbed and undisturbed soil samples.
• Performing in situ tests.
• Testing soil samples in laboratory for classification and engineering properties of soil.

The analysis is made to derive the allowable bearing capacity, taking into considerations
shear failures as anticipated settlements. The conclusions are made regarding the
precautions and protective measures to be taken, if found necessary.

2.0 INTRODUCTION:
Superintending Engineer, PIU (Zone-1/2), Rajkot has proposed to construct SC at village
Chhara, Ta: Kodinar, Dist: Gir Somnath. Ashirwad Geotech Laboratory, Baroda was
entrusted to conduct the sub soil investigation for safe bearing capacity. The Principal
objective of the exploration work was to determine the soil profile, permissible bearing
capacities at various depths for various sizes of foundations of structures. The entire field-
testing work was carried out as per relevant I. S codes and as per the instructions of the
representatives of the client.

The samples collected from test location, were sealed, labeled and transported to our
laboratory. The required laboratory tests were conducted as per relevant IS codes. This
report has been prepared after a careful study of the field testing and laboratory test results.
The type and depth of foundation are suggested by the client.

3.1 Rotary Boring:

One borehole of 150mm diameter was drilled at the site up to 6.00m depth from existing
ground level.
This method can be used in all types of soil. In this method boring is done by rotating the
drilling bit fixed at the bottom of the drill rod.

3.1.1 Standard Penetration Test (SPT):
The boring was supplemented by SPT tests conducted at various depths. The SPT was
conducted in accordance with IS 2131- 1981, in bore hole at every change of strata or at an
interval of 1.00m depth in uniform strata. The split spoon sampler driven and falling freely
from 75 cms ht. using the hammer of 65 kg for 45cm recording the number of blows every
15 cm. The numbers of blows for the last 30cm drive shall be reported as N – Value.

3.1.2 Disturbed Sample:

Disturbed soil samples are collected in bore holes at regular intervals to provide a complete
description of soil profile and its variation. Disturbed samples are collected at regular interval
of 1.00 m and immediately store in polythene bags as per IS: 1892. The bags shall be
sealed properly to avoid any change in moisture content and they shall be kept in wooden
boxes.

3.1.3 Undisturbed Samples:

Undisturbed samples are collected at regular intervals of 1.50 m and every change of strata.
Sampler tube are of 75 mm dia and 450mm length. Samples are collected in such a manner
that the structure of the soil and its moisture content do not get altered.

3.1.4 Ground Water:

Ground water table was not observed during the sub soil exploration work carried out in the
month of June 2020.

in laboratory. Following laboratory tests were carried out to determine the physical and
engineering properties of undisturbed and disturbed soil samples.

8.0 RECOMMENDATIONS:

1. The UCS & SBC shows in upper table is for the static & vertical loads only.
2. The UCS is given as whole rock mass considering geological parameters like joints and
its thickness, spacing & aperture.
3. Water table was not encountered during the soil exploration work carried out in the month
of June 2020.

9.0 LIMITATIONS:

The soil investigation has been carried out at location in the site chosen by the client so as
to represent the entire site. The recommendations provided in this report are hence valid
only for this test location. However, if there is any change in sub soil conditions and
properties at places between or beyond chosen test location, fresh investigations will have
to be carried out at such location. Soil properties specified in report, confirms only to that
location of bore hole and it may vary for other locations.
