2) A technical sharing by our colleagues from Electronics-Printing dept is given
below.

Technical sharing - mailroom

A brief introduction of mail room is given below, followed by a problem faced in Hyderabad mail
room recently and alternate solution provided for the same is explained.

After the printed products are out from the folder, these are transported to mailroom through News
grip and are released at delivery stations and stacked into bundles in stackers as per the product
configuration. After stacking, these bundles are covered with cling film and are strapped firmly using
MOSCA strapping machine.

The strapped bundle is the final output of mailroom. The below block diagram shows a mailroom
configuration with 2 delivery stations and 2 stackers. The undelivered copies are released at
Tensioning station and are stacked manually.
With reference to the above block diagram, the problem faced by us is explained below. The CPU of
delivery station 2 failed due to which we were unable to use line 2 for production. We had to look
for an alternate method to use line 2.

The basic operations taking place at Delivery station are

1) Copies are collected from the NewsGrip and a copy stream is formed for input to stacker infeed.

2) The conveyor motor (Lenze drive) at delivery station is used to transport these copies whose
speed is directly proportional to the speed of News grip.

To accomplish the above tasks the necessary signals were identified in the Electrical drawing and a
circuit was designed to provide the same. The condition for safety is the copy releasing and delivery
conveyor motor should cease to operate when the stacker stops.

Analog speed reference for delivery station 2 conveyor motor (Lenze drive) was tapped from
delivery station 1, since the CPU of delivery station 1 was in working condition.

Below block diagram illustrates the automated mode and modified modes of functioning.
The detailed Electrical circuit diagram is also given below.

The above circuit has enabled us to operate Delivery station 2 without the necessity of its CPU.
