General Personal Safety Practices


1 Wear safety glasses

2 Most accidents are caused by carelessness


3 No open-toed shoes inside the shop

4 No loose, baggy, or hanging clothing


5 Know where emergency stop buttons are located

6 Know where first aid kit is located


7 Know where exits and fir extinguishers are located

8 Secure your parts


9 Proper ventilation is always needed

10 Pay attention
11 Don't rely on students only on TA's

12 Use the correct tool

13 DO NOT operate machinery in the shop alone

14 Do not talk or distract someone while they operate

15 No horseplay allowed

16 Always have another student or mentor

17 Never use a machine without instructor permission


18 Don't mess with the guards
19 Keep floors free from backpacks and debris

20 Make sure the switch is in the "OFF" position


21 Report damaged tools to the instructor at once
22 Caution another student if you see them doing something dangerous. Let the instructor know too
23 Sharp tools cut better and are safer
