this classroom that goes along with one of the Quaver 5?
o Have students answer
o Encourage or guide students a necessary
 Yes! In this classroom we are going to be following the Quaver 5. An example of being
safe in this classroom would be to not run or climb on the risers we have in the
classroom. Could that fall under anything else?
o Have students answer
 It could fall under be cooperative as well because that is the expectation and you would
be cooperating if you followed the instructions!
 Being polite in my classroom would be treating me and your other classmates how you
would want to be treated. Couldn’t this also fall under being kind?
o Have students answer
 Yes! Another rule that would fall under being polite would be to no argue with me when
I give you directions.
 What would be a rule for the classroom that would fall under being responsible?
o Have students answer
o Encourage or guide students as necessary
 Always coming to class prepared, which means bringing a pencil and bringing your iPad
means you are being responsible!
 Now that we’ve thought about how we will apply the Quaver 5 to our classroom, let’s
think about how we use the Quaver 5 at home

Activity #2
 There are probably some similar rules you have at your house that fall under the Quaver 5
that you might not have realized! Could I have some volunteers raise their hands and tell
me a rule they have at your house?
o Have students answer
o Once they give an answer, determine as a class how that rule would fall under the
Quaver 5
 A rule I had at my house growing up was when I was really little was that I couldn’t jump
on our furniture. Which Quaver 5 do you think that could fall under?
o Have students answer
 It could fall under be safe because if I jumped on the couch I could have fallen and hurt
myself. I could also fall under be polite because my parents didn’t think jumping on the
couch was very good manners, and furniture is expensive, so if I kept jumping I would
wear the couch down or break something. It could also fall under be cooperative because
by not jumping on the couch I was doing what my parents told me and followed their
rules
 Does anyone else have any rules they have at home?
o Have students answer
o Once they give an answer, have the student figure out what Quaver 5 rule it could
fall under
o Concur as a class

Outro:

 Great! It seems a lot of us have some common things they follow in their homes! As we
go through the year we’re going to work to remember these to keep our class safe and
flowing smoothly! Let’s sing and do the actions to the Quaver 5 one more time
o Sing along and do actions to Quaver 5
 Let’s now make sure our chairs and stands are where they need to go and line up quietly
at the door. I hope everyone has a great rest of their day!
