I. OBJECTIVES
Content Standards:
The learners demonstrate understanding of polygons, circles, and solid figures.
Performance Standard:
The learners are able to construct and describe polygons, circles, and solid figures.
Learning Competency:
At the end of a 1 hour and 30- minute discussion, the Grade V students should be able to
do at least 80% proficiency level in the following:
a. Identify the terms related to a circle;
b. Draw circles with different radii using a compass;
c. Visualize circumference of a circle;
d. Measure circumference of a circle using appropriate tools;
e. Find the circumference of a circle; and
f. Solve routine and non-routine problems involving circumference of a circle.
A. Reviewing
Previous To start our class today, I have here a
Lesson downloaded short video clip. I want you
to listen carefully and pay attention to
what is the video all about because later Yes Ma’am
on, after you viewed it. I have some
questions to ask on you. Is that clear?
(Students will view the short video clip)
This is the video.
(Teacher will play the video) Yes, Ma’am
Did you like the video class? It is all about the circle shape.
Very good! The circle is a closed plane The things that shown in the video that
figure that has no straight sides. What are in a shape of a circle are sun, moon
are things that shown in the video that and planets.
are in a shape of a circle?
The pizza, pie, cookies and clock.
The name of nutrient is vitamins.
Great! What else?
Circles can be found everywhere and in
Ok! There so many things that is in a everything.
shape of a circle. So, where can we
found the circles?
The radius.
It is made up of points that are at a fixed
distance from a fixed point.
Fixed point is known as?
Good!
How about the fixed distance?
Very Good!
In circle O, the fixed point or center is
point O and the fixed distance is radius.
This means that all points on circle O
are r units away from center O.
You can draw a circle with the center O
and radius1 units on a plane. Yes.
Let’s see and study the steps. (The students will answer)
Excellent!
1. Chord
A line segment that connects
any two points of a circle.
2. Arc
A part of the circumference of a
circle.
3. Diameter
A chord that passes through the
center of the circle.
4. Segment
A region bounded by a chord
and an arc of a circle.
I will show you examples.
1. Points B, C, D and E are on a
circle A. Chord BC is a line
segment that connects points B
and C. Arc DE is an arc on
circle A that connects points D
and E.
d=10
Do you understand?
What is the length of the longest chord r = 0.75
of a circle?
The Longest chord of any circle is its Yes.
diameter. Therefore, the diameter of a
circle is twice the radius of it.
The formula in getting the diameter is
d=2 r. A compass is a tool used for drawing
circles.
Example: d= 2(5)
(The students will answer)
The formula in getting the radius is
r = d/2
Example: r = 1.5/2
Do you understand?
In making complete circle we used
different things to make it. One of this
and appropriate to use is a Compass.
What is a compass?
Do you know how to use this?
Let’s follow these steps on how to use
it.
Step 1: Insert a small pencil into the
holder arm of the compass.
Step 2: Tighten
the screw of the compass to hold the
pencil in place.
Very Good!
We can also use ID lace. Do you know
how?
(If there is a student/s knows how to do Keep quiet.
it, I will call him/her to show and
explain to use it.) Watch attentively.

Fantastic! Now that you are familiar
with our topic for today, let us proceed
to our next activity. (The students will show and tell)
(Using Quizziz, can be done orally) (The students will start to answer either
orally or in the quizziz)
Instruction: Refer to the given circle.
Find the indicated parts of the given
circle. Write your answer in the blank.
