A Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics 10

(10-Temperance)

Concept: A line in the plane of a circle that intersects the circle in exactly one point.

I. Behavioral Objective: At the end of the period, the students should be able to:

1. define Theorem 103 and Theorem 104;

2. solve problems using theorem 103 and theorem 104; and
2. evaluate the process in solving problems using theorems.

II Subject Matter

III. Methodology

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Preliminary Activities

1. Prayer
Please all stand. John kindly lead us the prayer. Let us pray. Amen.

2. Greetings Good afternoon ma’am. It’s nice to see

Good afternoon class! you.
Please take your seats. Thank you ma’am.

3. Checking of Attendance
Class secretary please check the attendance.

B. Review

Students are answering the problem.

Solution:
c² = a² + b²
ME = MD² + ED²
30² = 18² + ED²
900 = 324 + ED²
900 – 324 = 324 – 324 + ED²
√596 = √ED²
How far is point E from point D? 24 = ED
ED = 24
Are there anymore clarifications?
None ma’am.

If none, let’s close your previous topic and be

ready for the new topic.

C. Motivation

1. Circle A
1. What is the name of the circle?
2. Tangent Line
2. What do you call the line segment JM .
3. Radius of the circle
3. What do you call segment AJ?
4. Point of tangency

D. Presentation
a. Introduction of New Topic
Since you are done discussing the first two
theorems, today we will discuss the remaining theorems.

b. Lesson Proper/Discussion
As a sort of review, again what is tangent line?
Yes Abby? Students are their hands.
Thank you. Tangent is a line that intersects the
circle at one time.
Theorem 103: The Tangent Segments Theorem
If two tangent segments are drawn to a circle from
an external point, then
a. The two tangent segments are congruent,
b. The angles between the tangent segments and the
line joining the external point to the center of the Students are listening
circle are congruent.
For example, in the Figure, FAIR is a
circumscribed quadrilateral. Points L, O, V, and E are the
points of Tangency. If FL = 3cm, AO = 2.4cm, and RV =
2.5cm, Find:
a. EF
b. FA
c. ER
d. RI
e. Perimeter of FAIR Students are listening

Solution:
a. EF = 3 cm since EF = FL by Theorem 103.
b. FA = FL + LA,
Since the value of LA = AO which is 2.4cm by
theorem 103, therefore
FA = 3 + 2.4
FA = 5.4cm
Students are listening attentively.
Now what is the measure of ER?
Okay Allen. Students are raising their hands
2.5cm since RV = ER by The tangent
That is right. segments theorem.

What about the measure of RI?

Yes Edward. Kindly show your solution and explain. Students are raising their hands
RI = RV + VI
= 2.5 + 2
= 4.5cm
Since the measure of VI = OI = 2, by Tangent
That’s right. Segments Theorem.
Did you understand class?
Yes ma’am.
Now everybody, try to find the perimeter of the
figure FAIR. Students are solving.
Are you done ?
Yes ma’am.
Ford please show your answer on the board.
FAIR = FA + AI + RI + FR
Very good. = 5.4 + 4.4 + 4.5 + 5.5
FAIR = 19.8cm
E. Application

Directions: Solve the problem below. (By Group)

Using the given figure, if FL = 7, AO = 2, OI = 4,
and RV= 6. Find EF, FA, RI, and the perimeter of FAIR.
Students are solving.
Are you done?
Let’s check your work. Yes ma’am.
Very good class.

KEY TERMS:

Common Tangent- A line or segment to two

circles in the same plane is called COMMON
TANGENT of the two circles.

Lines a and b are common external tangents of Students are listening

circle C and T.
Common External Tangents do not intersect the
segment whose endpoints are the centers of the circles.

C T

Lines c and d are common internal tangents of

circle M and circle P. Common Internal Tangents
intersect the segments whose endpoints are the centers of
the circles.

Understood? Yes ma’am

Lets proceed to another Theorem,

Theorem 104: “ The Tangent Line Theorem”
If two circles are Tangent internally or externally,
then their lines of centers pass through the point of
contact.

Internally tangent circles
