Use the X In SDA 142, our class was tasked with creating a dance
expressive arts as routine to the music of our choice. We were also allowed
a mode of inquiry to use any of the moves we had learned up to that point in
or expression any order that we wanted. This assignment gave me the
opportunity to open up and be creative, which is
something that I typically don’t get the opportunity to do
being in the sciences. Being able to dance to the Halo
theme music was fun and a great way of being able to
express myself.
Demonstrate X In SBL 161, we were put into groups and had to work
leadership, together in order to complete our experiments. One of
negotiation, the experiments involved cutting planaria in half a certain
relational, and way and documenting their regrowth into two new
consensus skills organisms. At certain points, I would take charge and
help direct my group on what to do, at other points I
listened to my group members and did what they asked.
The experiment was very much a team effort and required
all of us to communicate and agree on different points.
Propose new X In SBU 270, our groups were to come up with a solution
solutions to to the problem of stores not having gender-neutral
current issues bathrooms. My group and I decided to look at stores
owned by TJX and figured out how to best implement an
all-inclusive restroom in their stores. We decided to
name it “The People’s Restroom” because it would be for
anyone to use, we also determined the costs and time
frame associated with the project in order for it to be
realistic.
Express X In SLA 201, our professor divided the class in half and
arguments or had us come in for only half the class so that we could
main points have discussion circles on the assigned readings or videos
clearly, in written for that week. During these discussions, the professor
and oral would ask the group questions and have us discuss our
communication opinion on the different topics throughout the course.
One of these discussions was on the crusades, whether or
not they were right, and how people were able to believe
the Pope when we talked about doing them. This
particular discussion was not one of the more heated
ones, but there were some disagreements about certain
points, mainly about whether or not the crusades were
justified.
In SBL 229, one of our assignments was to make an
argument either for or against evolution. I wrote my
paper for evolution, and cited things such as vestigial
structures, homologous structures, and the fossil record.
Vestigial structures are those that are currently present in
an organism and once had a purpose but are fairly useless
in the present time. Homologous structures are those that
are similar across many different species, such as the arm
bones of mammals, which shows that they all likely
evolved from a common ancestor and adapted to their
specific environment. The fossil record shows us the
transitions that organisms have made in order to become
the present-day ones that we see.

Communicate in X During my junior year at Seton Hill, I took SJP 100 and
a second 105. One of the tests that I took in SJP 100 had me write
language at the about myself and my daily routine, which was a fantastic
introductory way of demonstrating that I can introduce myself and give a
college level little bit of information about myself. Both semesters also
had small class sizes (less than 10 students) so this also
provided me an excellent opportunity to actually speak the
Japanese and get a more individual learning experience.
Analyze the X One of the subjects we learned about in SLA 201 was how
impact of history, eastern culture was brought to the western world. During
geography, and the days of the Maritime Silk Roads, traders would meet
socio-cultural and bring whatever they had to trade (including spices, silk,
dynamics on metals, etc.) and would also unintentionally bring their
global culture. Sometimes, the traders would like the others’
interactions from culture so much, that they brought some aspects of it back
a variety of with them and incorporated it into their lives. This is one
disciplinary of the reasons that both Asian cultures and the United
perspectives Kingdom love tea so much, they traded with each other in
the past and continue on with those traditions today.
Analyze current X In SLA 150, our final paper was to write about a social
and historical issue that is prevalent in the world and what a Pope has had
events through to say about the issue. The threat of nuclear war during the
the lens of Cold War caused many to rightfully be concerned for the
spirituality and wellbeing of the planet. Pope John XXIII wrote about this
faith in his encyclical, Pacem in Terris, condemning the use of
nuclear weapons and asking the nations that owned them to
disarm and dismantle these dangerous weapons. Pope
Francis has said the same thing in recent years, believing
that they are only kept out of fear. The Catholic faith
believes that these weapons must be dealt with in order to
prevent the possibility of an Earth-ending nuclear war.
Assess privilege X SBU 270 really opened my eyes to a lot of gender
and oppression inequalities that go on in the business world. One of the
from the biggest issues is that of the gender pay gap, an issue that’s
perspective of been affecting women for decades and persists today.
culture, race, Although it is much better today than in the past, women
class, and gender are still paid less than their male counterparts for the exact
same (or sometimes even more) work. This issue is not
only morally wrong, it can have harsh consequences for a
business. Businesses that are continuously hiring and
retraining employees because their female employees are
leaving can be costly over time and makes customers lose
respect for them as a whole. This practice needs to end so
that everyone is paid for the work they do, not their gender.

Generate and X SCH 113 taught me a number of lab techniques that I have
analyze numerical used throughout my time at Seton Hill. One of the most
and scientific data important techniques I learned was how to look at data that
we generate and come to conclusions based on them.
During one of our experiments, we looked at chemical
kinetics, which is simply the time it takes for a reaction to
occur. We were given certain chemicals to mix and were
supposed to time them to see if we were able to recreate the
predicted time. While many of got close, none of us
perfectly matched the theoretical time, mostly due to
human error and type of lab equipment available to us. It
was a great lab to learn how to analyze data that we collect
for ourselves.
The final project for SSO 235 was to research a topic that is
related to the environment and something that is hurting it.
My group and I decided to do our presentation on
biomedical waste and how it effects the environment. In
order to achieve the most impact, we decided to use a
PowerPoint and Kahoot quiz so that the class would have
some fun listening to our presentation. We even gave away
a small reusable straw to the winner so that everyone would
actually listen, and the winner would then be helping the
environment by not wasting plastic straws.
Find, evaluate, X SBL 100 was an introductory science course that gave
and apply students the opportunity to research bacteriophages.
information Throughout the course, our groups had to find
bacteriophages in the soil, be able to “grow” them on petri
dishes, and then use gel electrophoresis to determine if their
DNA should be sequenced. Since not much is known about
bacteriophages, most of the information on them we had to
find and evaluate ourselves. One day, this information will
be applied to the medical field in order to help fight
bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics, since
bacteriophages vary greatly and can attack a wide range of
bacterial species.

Apply Catholic X One of the projects we did in SCH 212 had students trying
social teaching to find an alternative to chromium reagents. Chromium
to the analysis of reagents contain heavy metals would are harmful to both
contemporary the environment and human health. Being able to find a
social issues safer alternative (such as oxoammonium salts) is preferred
and follows CST principles about taking care of one
another along with the planet as a whole. The only
principle that we found did not directly relate to this topic
was the principle of association, since chromium does not
really have anything to do with how humans socially
interact.
The social action project that my partner and I did for SLA
400 was called “Kindness in Cards for Westmoreland
Manor”. We handed blank cards out to students, friends,
and family and asked them to write nice or uplifting things
in order to help cheer up the residents at Westmoreland
Manor during these unprecedented times. We ended up
getting back over 350 cards, which was more than enough
for every resident to get one. We decided on this social
action project because seniors are among the most
vulnerable groups in the world, especially those that are in
care facilities. Since Catholic social teachings preach
taking care of the vulnerable, we wanted to make sure that
the seniors at Westmoreland Manor knew that people cared
about them, even if we do not necessarily know who they
are.
Recognize the X Throughout the semester in SLA 150, we learned about the
value of diverse major religions in the world. Our midterm exam was on
spiritual and aspects from Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, Hinduism,
religious and atheism. Part of the exam was about how these
perspectives religions differed, but more importantly, how they
overlapped and drew concepts from one another. This
helped me understand that all religions have value,
regardless of whether I believe in their views or not.
Integrate the X The restroom assignment that my class had for SBU 270
practice of involves both charity and justice. Gender-neutral restrooms
charity with the provide a direct service to those that are uncomfortable
skill of justice using a men’s or women’s restroom. They also help
promote social change by providing a safe space for
transgender individuals to go without fear of being judged,
thus helping them in becoming confident and reducing hate
toward them.
