assignment or activity meets the skill
X The video presentation submitted for this class is a
good example of this. In the video, not only did I
demonstrated by making a coaster.
X I worked on a group project in my Business
Communications class that focus on diversity, equity,
inclusion, and multiculturism. Our project was based
on the NIKE company. We had to analyze how the
company was doing in these specific areas and how
they could improve.
X One of the classes that I took was a Nutrition for Life
class. In that class, we had to work in groups to do
projects. Of course, I had that one person in the
group who did not participate at all. As the most
experienced one in the group, I had to take the lead
on the project as well as attempting to reach out to
the non-participating party.
X Surprisingly, one of my favorite classes was a Visual
Design class. We had to do many projects on Canva.
One of my favorite projects was an advertisement
that we had to design for a made-up company.
X We explored different types of technologies that can
be used in Healthcare Information Systems. In this
class, I created a Power Point presentation directed to
a CEO of a hospital about the advantages of
upgrading the information technologies and how it
could make certain jobs easier for everyone involved.

X I took a couple different religious classes. One of the
assignments that we had, we had to do a paper on the
practice of Ramadan. I had heard of Ramadan, but I
had no idea what all it entailed.
X For me, this is more of a life experience. I was
working in one location for my current employer. I
was starting to struggle emotionally. My manager
was insensitive to the health situation that my
husband was going through. It was getting harder
and harder for me to talk to her. A new location was
opening; which meant the opportunity for change. I
jumped on the opportunity. Less than three years
later, I am not the supervisor at this location and I
couldn’t be happier with the decision I made. I have
grown as a person, as a leader, and as an employee.
X As someone who was not raised in the church,
religion is one of those subjects that does not come
easy to me. In a class called “Jesus”, I learned a lot
about the history of Jesus. One assignment had us
making a power point in which we compared Jesus in
three different religions…Judaism, Islam, and
Hinduism. It is eye opening to see how many
similarities there are, as well as the differences.
X In a class called Sports in America, we did a lot of
research on discrimination, equality, and controversy
in the sports industry. One assignment was all about
the discrimination that occurred in the 1932
Olympics. There were only 4 African Americans
who were allowed to compete in those particular
games. This led to protests and the creation of the
Chicago Counter-Olympics.

Example of specific assignment or activity
X In more than one class, I have had to choose a well-
known company and do a financial analysis on it. In
doing so, I had to write a paper in one class and put
together a power point presentation in another. For
this, I chose Kraft Heinz Company. I had to analyze
multiple years of data and calculate different ratios.
X In accounting, it is important to be able to locate and
analyze data. During a class I took on Auditing, we
learned how to analyze data from different sources in
order to locate errors. You then have to determine
whether the error was truly a mistake or if it was an
omission on the part of the employee or company.
X In one of my accounting classes, I had to create a
memorandum for the vice president of the company.
This memorandum contained two different options
that the company could choose. Comparisons were
included for each of the two options in order to help
the vice president to make a decision. One example
showed what the cost per item would be with a 20%
price increase compared to keeping it at the current
rate.
X This is another area where I feel that my work
experience is relevant. My job requires me to work
with the public. While we have to follow our
company procedures, it is important to do it
respectfully and show the customers kindness.
Although, we may not be able to do things exactly as
they wish, we must be able to explain it to them in a
way that they will understand. This comes to play
the most when there is a death of an account holder.
We know that the customer is going through a rough
time and we try to show compassion. However,
many times, they are so upset that they just don’t
want to listen. It is our job to stay calm and be
respectful while doing our job.

Example of specific assignment or activity
X In my power point, Ethics in Accounting, I discussed
the ethical dilemma facing the accounting profession.
A major firm was cited for its employees cheating on
the CPA exam. These kinds of situations make you
wonder why the employees thought that this was
their only option. Why didn’t they ask for help? Did
they feel like they would be looked down upon for
not knowing the answers?
X I believe that I have touched base on this a few
times…some even within this class. Taking care of
our poor and vulnerable is something that I think
needs more attention in this country. As I have
discussed in a few of my papers, cancer patients and
their families go through so much. The healthcare
industry needs to consider some major changes. In
my social justice letter to Mr. Becerra, I plead with
him to make changes for these patients and their
families.
X Again, religion is not my best subject. I took a class
on Jesus and a class on Islam. In these classes, it was
interesting for me to see the similarities and the
differences; not only in the religions but the holidays
as well.
X As I mentioned in My Vocational Essay, I would
love to someday start a charity. As the wife of a
cancer patient, I see firsthand how these types of
diseases affect the entire family. The charity that I
would like to start would provide financial assistance
to these families for food, gas, bills, etc. It would
also provide emotional support for the patient and
their family.
X In my town, there is a committee that does a lot to
promote small businesses. For the last few years, my
company has involved us in the activities being held
by this committee. This year, we participated in

Light-Up Night by hosting Santa for the children of
the community and the “Cookie Crawl” for Small
Business Saturday. Bringing the community together
for these types of events is important, especially
when you live in a small town.

X I have taken on many volunteer roles in recent
years. Starting out with a position as Treasurer of
my kids’ elementary school PTO, then moving on to
be the president for many years. As president, I was
responsible for a large group of individuals. Our
job was to do everything we could to assist the
teachers with things they needed. We helped in the
classroom when needed, planned activities and field
trips for the students, and generally cared for both
the staff and the students.
X Upon giving up my position with the PTO, I moved
on to the high school activities my children. I
currently hold the position of Treasurer for two
different organizations. Not only does my banking
experience help with these roles, but also my
background in accounting. It is important to keep
everything straight and keep detailed records. These
are skills that will be very important as I move on to
an accounting position.
X In my Business Communications class, I had to
interview two leaders and use the information
collected from them to write a paper. I chose to
interview the CEO of my company, as well as the

Vice President. In talking to them, it was interesting
to see how different their leadership styles are. It
made me realize that there are many ways for a
person to succeed and everyone has their own way
of doing so.
X Obviously, many of my classes are accounting
based. However, a lot of what I do at work and as a
volunteer follows along the same path. I am
constantly dealing with debits and credits. At work,
the vice president of the company has asked me to
do some work with the accounting department. I
consider it a compliment to even be asked.
