leadership, including many courses at Seton Hill. This
negotiation, relational, objective would most clearly be met
consensus-building, and when I had the opportunity to take
teamwork skills care of one patient in particular in the
clinical setting. The patient was
immobile and required the strength of
multiple people to help turn them in
the bed. We had to turn this patient
because they had had a bowel
movement and needed to be cleaned.
Since this was the patient I was
assigned to, I was the leader for this
task. I had to rally together 5 of my 6
clinical classmates in order to help
get this patient turned in bed enough
to clean them. This task required
negotiation with the patient. I had
compromised with them that if they
worked with me to turn them, I would
get them their favorite juice from the
kitchen. This task clearly required
leadership, negotiation, relational,
consensus-building and teamwork
skills in order to help get the patient
clean.
1.4 Communicate and X This objective was achieved through
express ideas through the a class that I took through CCAC
arts titled “Artistic Expression.” The
professor had asked us to find images
within social media that could be
identified as either persuasion or
propaganda. I was able to tie the
different images in media back to the
topics discussed in our textbook for
the class. It showed how images that
are shown in the media are able to
portray a message to the viewers.
Certain images can be portrayed for
various reasons. Since this class was
taken during the summer of 2020,
one of my images included a picture
of a Colorado Senator who was
wearing a mask and advocating for
others to wear a mask in public. I was
able to apply the ideas of the class to
current issues with this assignment. It
showed how images, or art, can be
used to communicate messages to
viewers.

and cultural settings

2.2 Use time, place and X This objective was met through my
social change as Psychology of Crime & Delinquency
frameworks for analyzing class. I had completed an assignment
social developments from about juvenile delinquency. This
multiple disciplinary assignment allowed me to look at
perspectives things such as how a person's home
life and childhood can play a role in
juvenile delinquency. The
assignment also encouraged me to
take a look at different ways to help
someone who is considered to be a
part of juvenile delinquency. I was
able to include not only information
from class material, but take into
account both the psychological,
behavioral, and physical perspectives
of juvenile delinquency.

oppression from the through the various textbooks that
perspective of diverse were read in my Race, Class and
identities Gender class. I had read multiple
books in this class that allowed me to
take a deep dive into the oppression
and privilege that is seen in the
United States. It showed me how
innocent until proven guilty is not the
same for all ethnic groups that are
present in America. Additionally, we
had read the book “Just Mercy” by
Bryan Stevenson. This book looked
at how Bryan, a lawyer, set out to
prove that individuals who were in
jail were innocent and were found
guilty because of their race. At the
end of the semester, we were able to
take all of the knowledge we had
gained about privilege and
oppression and write a letter to a
family member or friend who did not
understand that privilege and
oppression still exist in society today.
I was able to apply quotes from all of
the books read to this letter so that it
would have been supported by class
material.

3.4 Demonstrate respect X This assignment was met in two

for multiple ideas and different ways. One, my Race, Class,
worldviews and Gender class was based on a lot
of class discussions. In these
discussions, we were all given the
opportunity to share our ideas for the
topics at hand. While I may not have
agreed with everyone’s ideas at all
times, I had to demonstrate respect
for their thoughts. The second way
that this objective was met was
through various assignments
completed in my Psychology of Sex
and Gender class. One of the chapters
discussed the stereotypes for gender
in different parts of the world. Many
of those stereotypes and standards for
gender are not the same as what we
see in America. In my activity and
exam assignments, I was able to
demonstrate my knowledge and
respect for the other worldviews on
gender.

4.3 Explain the value of X This objective is something that is

diverse spiritual and always seen in healthcare and
religious perspectives something that all healthcare
workers, including myself have to
take into account. Different spiritual
or religious perspectives can affect
how someone may want to be
treated in the hospital setting. This
could be in regards to the food they
are eating or the treatment plans that
they will or will not take. I am
required to ask all patients that I
take care of if there are any spiritual,
religious, cultural values that the
patient has that would impact their
care while in the hospital. This
objective was something that was
taught to me very early on in my
nursing education.

4.4 Integrate the action of X This objective was completed

charity with the virtue of through participating in the social
justice justice project in my senior seminar
class. We were able to create a way
to educate the members of the Seton
Hill community about sustainability.
This included things like selling old
clothes and using food waste
products to make something else to
eat or drink. One table included
selling “Earth Day” themed cookies.
A second table allowed us to collect
clothes and then sell them to others.
All of the money that was raised
through this event was able to then
be given to the Westmoreland
Conservatory. This project
integrated both the action of charity
with the virtue of justice.

4.5 Exercise responsible X Throughout all of my clinical

freedom and civic experiences in each semester, I have
engagement based on an had to achieve this objective. I have
informed value system been able to exercise both civic
engagement and responsible
freedom by applying the Nursing
Code of Ethics to the clinical
setting. The informed value system
seen in the clinical setting is not
only the code of ethics, but each
hospital's own unique policies and
procedures. I had to always ensure
that I was acting responsibly in the
clinical setting. If I was not
achieving this objective, it could
cause harm not only to patients, but
to myself and others in the clinical
setting.

5.3 Identify and X This objective was met through

articulate skills, my job I have maintained as a
strengths, knowledge Patient Care Technician (PCT)
and experiences and my summer experience as
relevant to one’s a nurse extern. Once I decided
career goals to go to nursing school, the
Covid-19 pandemic had hit.
There was concern that we may
not get as much clinical
experience as we were
supposed to. While this did not
happen, I wanted to take
matters into my own hands and
get a job in the hospital setting.
I quickly found myself working
as a PCT at a local hospital.
This job is a common stepping
stone for nursing students. It
allowed me to get hands-on
patient experience and begin to
assume responsibility for
taking care of someone else.
Additionally, in the summer of
2021, I was able to take the
opportunity of being at a Nurse
Extern at Forbes Hospital.
While this experience was quite
similar to my preceptorship, it
allowed me to work side-by-
side with a nurse full time for
10 weeks over the summer.
This allowed me to really start
to see my strengths and
weaknesses as a future nurse.
My preceptor also was able to
provide insight on areas that I
needed to improve on and how
to go about improving on those
areas. Neither of these are
things that were required by the
school to complete. However, I
knew my career goal was to
become a nurse and I knew I
wanted to be as ready as I
possibly could be coming out
of school.
