LESSON 1: THE SKELETAL SYSTEM I. OBJECTIVES A. Identify the organs and function of the skeletal. B. Give ways on how to take care of the skeletal system. II. SUBJECT MATTER Topic: The Organs and Function of Skeletal System References: Science 6 (pages 57-68) *Note: In every activity, write your answer in 1 whole sheet of pad paper or coupon bond back to back in chronological order. Every submission, just pass your answer sheet attached with this guideline. Maintain cleanliness on your paper. III. PROCEDURE A. INTRODUCTION Karen is a ballerina. Her body is so flexible. She can do ballet stunts that put her body in different positions. As a dancer, she makes sure that her body is fit and well-conditioned to do the stunts by stretching everyday and drinking milk at least twice a day. What could be the possible reason that Karen’s body is flexible and freely move? To crack the question, let us continue to the next level. B. DISCUSSION The skeleton of an adult is a structure composed of 206 rigid organs called bones. It is responsible for the body’s shape and external appearance. The skeletal system together with some 400 muscles is also responsible for movement. Without bones, the body would not have a form or shape, the body would just be a blob of soft muscles and internal organs. So, it would be impossible for ballerina like Karen to do gymnastics stunts. (More discussion on the parts and function of the skeletal system, refer on pages 60-62). In order for the body to support the body and protect the organs inside the body the bones must be strong. Calcium makes the bones big and strong. A good source of calcium is milk. Avoid foods or drinks that weaken the bones, such as salty foods, sugary foods, and carbonated and/ or caffeinated drinks. (More discussion on how to care skeletal system, refer on pages 63-64. C. APPLICATION Answer the activity A under Assessment Activities on pages 65-66. D. GENERALIZATION Read and understand the key words under Knowledge on page 65. E. EVALUATION A. Answer letter B, C, and D on pages 66-68. LESSON 2: THE CONCEPT OF PROPORTION I. OBJECTIVES A. Define and illustrate the meaning of proportion using concrete or pictorial models. B. Find the missing term in a proportion. II. SUBJECT MATTER Topic: The concept of Proportion References: Mathematics 6 (pages 133-134) III. PROCEDURE A. INTRODUCTION Engage yourself to the following problem. Mother uses three apples and two mangoes in making a bowl of fruit salad. Find the other equal ratios.
WHAT WILL I DO?
In finding equal ratios, let us use the concept of proportion. Proportion is the equality of two ratios. Given that, the ratio of the number of apples to the number of mangoes is 3:2. Let us find the other equal ratio by keeping the same ratio. Study the table below. apples 3 3*2 = 6 3*3 = 9… mangoes 2 2*2 = 4 2*3 = 6… If you observe the sequence is just a matter of finding the multiple of a given number. Indeed, the ratios 3:2 and 6:4 are equal ratios, and 3:2 and 9:6 are also equal ratios. It satisfies the concept of proportion. . B. DISCUSSION Proportion is a statement of equality between two ratios. Each part of a proportion is a term. The first and the last terms are called extremes while the second and third terms are called means. (Examples, refer to pages 133-134). In finding the missing term in a Proportion, refer on page 135-136. C. APPLICATION Try to answer the activity A and B under TRY THESE on page 136. D. GENERALIZATION Read and understand the key words under points to ponder on page 136. E. EVALUATION PART I: Answer letter A and B on PAGES 137-138 under GET STARTED. PART II: Answer letter B only on PAGE 148 under SKILL ENHANCER. PART III: Solve each word problem on PAGES141-142 item 1-5 only under GO FOR GOLD.
