Dear Mr. And Mrs.

Hong,

Hello, my name is Ms. Macdissi and I am your son Joshua’s 9th grade English teacher.
Let me begin by stating it is a pleasure having Joshua in classroom, as he is always eager to learn
new content and is very respectful towards his classmates and myself! He arrives to class on
time with a smile on his face. Whenever a class activity calls for small groups, I always notice
that Joshua listens attentively to his peers’ answers as well as make sure everyone has had the
opportunity to participate. He does exceedingly well with class discussions and class work.

However, I have noticed that while Joshua is a bright student, he has recently been
struggling to turn in his homework assignments on time. While Joshua does well with in-class
assignments, I feel that he has some difficulty managing his time at home to complete homework
assignments by their due date.

To assist Joshua with this struggle, I have organized a plan that I believe will help Joshua
get back on track to turning his homework in on time. At the beginning of each week, I will send
Joshua home with a calendar outlining the assignments that need to be completed throughout that
week. Joshua can sit down with you at home and create a schedule of when he will start, work
on, and finish each assignment by its due date. With this calendar and schedule established in
advance, Joshua will have a clear direction of when to approach his assignments.

Along with the calendar and schedule, I will meet with Joshua half-way throughout the
week during lunch to check in with him. This way, Joshua can discuss with me any problems he
is having with his agenda or any revisions that need to be made to his schedule that benefit him
best. With these mini-meetings, Joshua and I can establish the information needed to assist him
with time management in the future. I believe having the calendar and schedule along with these
small meetings/ check-ins throughout the week will provide Joshua with the skills he needs to
become an excellent manager of his time not solely for the homework from my class, but for
assignments in his other classes as well.

I appreciate your collaboration and I look forward to meeting with you to further discuss
a supportive plan that works for both Joshua and you. I am available every Tuesday and
Thursday from 3:00 to 6:00 PM. Please let me know which day and time will work best for you
and I will set aside time on my calendar to arrange a meeting.

Sincerely,

Ms. Mikaela Macdissi
