QUESTIONS/STATEMENTS

1. In a maximum number of ten (10) sentences, describe the Philippine Educational System.
- Education in the Philippines has undergone several stages of development from the pre-Spanish
times to the present. In meeting the needs of the society, education serves as focus of
emphases/priorities of the leadership at certain periods/epochs in our national struggle as a race. As
early as in pre-Magellanic times, education was informal, unstructured, and devoid of methods.
Children were provided more vocational training and less academics (3 Rs) by their parents and in
the houses of tribal tutors. Today, our educational system here in our country has it’s influences from
different countries especially from the colonizers. There are three main stages in our system namely:
primary, secondary, and higher education, and after these stages it’s up to you if you want to do the
master’s or doctorate for your chosen field in college. I can say that our educational system is not
that behind of what other universities in other country offer’s/ teaches to their students because, the
system is dynamic, in order to compete from others the government especially the education given
should be standard in terms of knowledge and application.

2. Explain the Education Reform in the Philippines.
- The Philippine education system has evolved over hundreds of years of colonial occupation,
first by Spain and then by the US, through martial law and the people’s power revolution that
brought democracy to the sprawling archipelago. The education sector’s development has
mirrored the changes in the country’s administration. Today the focus is on expanding access and
ensuring more Filipinos receive a decent basic education, as a means of reducing poverty and
improving national competitiveness. The country needs to create more jobs as well as industries
that will hire new graduates that have been trained and have acquired the right kind of skill sets.
Academia is not completely at fault with regard to this mismatch; however, part of the problem is
that there is a lack of dialogue between academia and the industry. They need to be able to
understand each other and address perception gaps. kang(2017).The government insists that the
education system must be more appropriate to the needs of the country, including its economy.
The aim is to improve students’ abilities in science and technology, and nurture critical thinking,
creativity and entrepreneurial spirit, as well as to encourage them to support the wider
community, especially those on the margins. In recent years DepEd has introduced a number of
measures to improve the standard of teaching, revising professional benchmarks and providing
more on-the-job training. It has also made a concerted effort to attract the brightest and the best
by raising compensation and making the selection process more competitive.
