Dear Diary,

Today was a busy day. I had a Mathematics and Bahasa Malaysia test. The Mathematics

test was not too difficult but the Bahasa Malaysia test was quite challenging. After school

finished I had lunch with my friends, Dina and Anisa. We ate at the canteen.

Then, we attended the Music Club meeting. Our teacher advisor said that he would like to

enter our Club for an interstate singing competition. All our club members were very excited

and everyone gave suggestions for songs we should sing. After the meeting, I went for netball

practice.

I was quite tired by the time I got home. After taking a shower, I rested for a while.

Mother needed my help to cook dinner. I cooked the rice and stir-fried the vegetables. After

dinner, I sat down to do my homework. I had English and Science homework. It took me two

hours to finish my homework.

In the olden days, Penang also known as the Pearl of

PENANG the Orient was a harbor for ships on their way to
China. This is due to its strategic location at the
entrance of the Straits of Malacca on the northwestern
coast of the Malay Peninsula. Since its humble
beginnings as an important port, this beautiful island
has developed and grown as a famous tourist
destination that is rich in history and culture. Its capital
city, Georgetown, is one of Malaysia’s oldest cities
renowned for its century-old colonial buildings.

Located in the east coast of the peninsula, the magic

KELANTAN of Kelantan is in its quaint fishing villages, idyllic
sandy beaches lined with captivating swaying palms
and scenic tropical forests. Still, the true charm of the
land is in the vitality of its colourful culture. Kelantan
state, which is also the ‘Cradle of the Malay Culture’,
is home to vibrant cottage industries involved in the
making of traditional handicrafts such as songket,
batik, brassware and basket weaving. In its capital,
Kota Bharu, traditional pastimes such as kite-flying
and top-spinning are still very much alive today.

Pahang is blessed with famous hill resorts with cool

PAHANG mountain air, internationally renowned beaches,
islands, lakes, spectacular waterfalls and intriguing
caves. This largest state in Peninsular Malaysia is
also home to the world’s oldest rainforests filled with
exotic and even endangered flora and fauna. At its
coast, the virgin jungle changes into peaceful and
rustic fishing villages, a stunning contrast to the
multicultural and modern state capital, Kuantan.

Sabah occupies the northern part of Borneo and is the

SABAH second largest state in Malaysia. It is a melting pot of
cultures and traditions. It is set amidst a landscape
that ranges from the oldest tropical rainforest in the
world to one of the highest peaks in Southeast Asia.

Question 4
Read the passage below.

Water is a precious resource. Therefore, we need to use it sparingly or carefully.

Turn the tap off while you are brushing your teeth, shaving, washing your hands or doing the
dishes. The next time you shower, do this. First, wet your body, then turn off the water while you
soap up. Turn it back on for long enough to rinse. Also catch the cold water that comes out of
the tap or shower while you are waiting for the hot water. You can use it to water plants or pour
into your toilet reservoir after flushing.
Try to take shorter showers. You could shave outside the shower, or turn off the shower while
you shave. Also take showers rather than baths. When you take a bath, you are using up to 100
liters of water! Showering will usually use less than a third of this amount. If you do take a bath,
use that water for your garden.
Choose your next washing machine wisely. Front loaders use far less water than top loaders.
Make sure to buy laundry detergents that rinse well and don’t require an extra rinse.
Furthermore, do less laundry. Unless your clothes are obviously dirty or smell bad, do not wash
them. Also, hang towels on a rack for air drying after you shower. Use them a few times
between washings.
You should also wear clothing more than once. You can also wear the same pyjamas for a few
nights in a row, especially if you shower before bed. However, do change your handkerchief
daily, but wear slacks, jeans and skirts more than once between washings.
