2. distinguish elements from compounds based on a set of properties; and
3. classify substances as either element or compound.

In this module, you will find out that substances maybe further classified into two: elements and
compounds. Read the introductory message and what the student is expected to learn.

9:05-9:20 What I Know (Lesson 3)


Read and analyze the 15 item multiple choice questions. Write the letter of the answer on a separate
answer sheet. This aims to check what the student already know about the lesson to take. If he/she
gets all the answers correct (100%), he/she may decide to skip this module. But for further learning,
it is suggested to continue on with the module.

Inside the box are the substances that are found in the cabinet. Classify which among them are
elements ad compounds and complete the template.

Answer Activity 2 “Let’s Hunt Elements and Compounds! “.Fill up the table and answer the guide
questions.
10:20-10:30 What I Have Learned (Lesson 3)
Read each situation. Classify the underlined substances whether it is an element or a compound.
Write 1 if it is an element and 2 if it is a compound.
10:30-10:40 What I can do (Lesson 3)
Look on the food label of soy sauce. Identify the elements and compounds. Complete table 2.
Answer the guide questions.
10:40-10:50 Assessment (Lesson 3)
Finally, answer the 15 multiple choice questions very carefully. This will measure the understanding
of module 2 Lesson 3. This will also be the basis if the student will be given further remediation and
assistance about the topic.
10:50-11:00 Additional Activities (Lesson 3)
Have a tour in your kitchen pick five (5) food products having nutrition facts and
ingredients. Look for the name of elements and compounds that are present.
