3. Introduction: HFO (Heavy Fuel oil) is used as a start-up & supporting fuel
in boiler. The heavy fuel oil distributed to the twenty four 24 burners located
in three elevation. Steam atomization is used for better combustion of HFO.
Steam tracing, HFO heaters are provided to maintain temp as viscosity is
high. Steam flushing provision is available for HFO lines, pumps to flush out
the residual oil for maintenance works
5. Safety Precautions
Ensure no permit to work is pending on regarding this system by
checking control room.

Pre-start checks
1. No PTW is pending.
2. Pump power supply is normal. ( Water supply PCC )
3. Open steam tracing valves. (Always keep the valve open).
4. Open HFO pumps heating / flushing steam header valve.
5. Close HFO line / Filter / Pump flushing steam valves. (Always
keep the valve close )
6. Open supply oil line valve at storage tank.
7. Pumps recirculation valve to tank is open. ( At Tank )
8. Long recirculation (from boiler) valve to tank is open.
9. Suction filter drain is closed.
10. Suction filter inlet, outlet valves are open. Bypass is closed.
11. Prime the filter. ( required only if filter isolated previously / tank
outlet is closed )
12. Steam heating supply, return valves of filter are open.
13. Pump suction valve is open.
14. Pump recirculation valve is open.
15. Recirculation inlet, outlet valves are open. Recirculation bypass is
closed. And power supply is ON.
16. Open HFO Heater outlet valve.
17. Open HFO temp control valve inlet, outlet valves. Close bypass
valve.
18. Open HFO supply line flow meter inlet, outlet valves. Close bypass
valve.
Startup
1. Start HFO supply pump.
2. Adjust the discharge pressure by adjusting pumps recirculation
valve.
3. Check for any abnormal noise, vibration and leaks .
4. Open Heater inlet steam valve.
5. Open heater outlet steam valve.
Shut down
