Total tension on the foundation =

= 4.42 KN
Total Maximum Tensile load in a bolt as per support reaction = Direct tension + Flexural Tension = ]

= 𝐹𝑦 /2 + M.y/I

= 2.51 KN

Design Basis Report for MMS and Foundation
Checks:
1) Tensile capacity of 1 bolt=

2.51 KN < 29 KN
The attached table from ISO ISO 898-1:2009(E) shows that the provided bolt size is sufficient in taking Maximum Tension

13 | P a g e Doc No:
Design Basis Report for MMS and Foundation
2) BALLAST CALCULATION

The ballast sustains the wind load uplift by 2 actions ,

a) SELF WEIGHT OF BALLAST = 2400 Kg/𝑚3 x 0.4 x 0.4 x 0.375 = 144 kg
b) TENSILE CAPACITY OF THE BONDED BALLAST TO EXISTING CONCRETE
In this, the tensile capacity of the bond will be the minimum of either the tensile capacity of bonding material, or the substrate.
The tensile capacity of bonding material is 30 mpa as per table given from technical literature.

The attached table shows the capacity of Fosroc Nito Bond EP

Hence the strength will be governed by tensile strength of concrete (fct = 0.7 sqrt (fck) = 3.13 mpa)
Applying a further FoS of 2.0,
Ballast Capacity = fct*Ab/FoS + weight of ballast --- where Ab is area of base of ballast
= 3.13 N/mm2*400*400/2/1000 + 24 kN/m3*0.4*0.4*0.3
= 500 kN ( mainly governed by tensile bond)
Hence, the ballast will be sufficient for the expected wind load uplift.
