- Moderate/ severe Alzheimer's disease
- Mild/ moderate vascular dementia

CNS Effects: - Available orally in tablets or
- Dizziness, headache, increased confusion liquid solution

- Give with or without food

Contraindications/Precautions
- Renal Failure, Renal disorders, Liver disorders
- Seizure disorders Nursing Interventions
- Previous allergy to Memantine
- Older adults - Monitor for CNS effects

- Keep client safe if dizziness
Interactions occurs
- Assess for Diarrhea or
- Over-the-counter antacids (sodium bicarbonate) and Constipation
other drugs that increase pH of urine cause increased
levels of Memantine & possible toxicity
