1. Non- destructive testing

1. In general
The welded joints including the inside wherever possible shall be visually examined. Non-destructive tests will be required depending on the class of pipes and
type of joints hereunder indicated.
I.1 Butt welded joints
-For class I pipes with an outer diameter than 76.1 mm, 100% radiographic testing (RT) is required.
-For class II pipes with an outer diameter greater than 101.6 mm and for class I pipes with an outer diameter ≤ 76.1 mm, at least 10 % random radiographic
testing required. More stringent requirements may be applied at the surveyors discretion depending on the kind of materials, welding procedure and controls
during the fabrication.
1.2 Fillet welds:
- For fillet welds of flange type connection in class I pipes with an outer diameter greater than 76.1 mm, 100% magnetic particle testing ( MT) is required.
- For class II pipes with an outer diameter greater than 101.6 mm and for class I pipes with an outer diameter ≤ 76.1 mm, random magnetic particle testing at
The discretion of the surveyor required.
In addition welded joints in pipes for thermal oil hall be subject to at least 10% random radiographic testing.
I.2 For heating coils
Heating coils in cargo tanks shall be subject to NDT in accordance with table 1.

Notes:
1) If automatic welding is used, the percentage may be reduced at the Surveyors discretion.
2) Experience shows that pressure tests do not always reveal leaks in joint because a capillary gap can be temporarily sealed by flux residues. A
recommended part of the procedure for testing a heating coil system should therefore be to apply a steam test, which will dissolve flux dissolve

residues and reveal leaks.

II. PRESSURE TEST PROCEDURE

2. General require for piping system:

1.1 The hydrostatic pressure tests of piping in workshop are to be check the leakage and welding quality pipe spools and fittings and to confirm whether it can
satisfy with rule/standard requirement.
1.2 After installation on board, hydrostatic testing for systems are to check the installation quality of the piping systems to confirm for the leakage of the hole
systems
1.3 Attendees will be based on specified ITP

3. Applicable:
This hydrostatic plan is prepared according to DNV Rule Pt 4, Ch 6,Sec. 7 E and applicable for SUB-SEA CONSTRUCTION & PIPE LAY VESSEL
fabricated pipes.

4. Preparation works and test procedures

During testing, the preparation works and test procedures should be followed:
3.1 Pressure gauge have to calibrate and within valid date.
3.2 Before starting hydrostatic test for pipe spools in workshop/on board, visual inspection and NDT have been carried out and satisfied authorized.
3.3 Vent points at the highest point and drain points at the lowest points should be provided to all testing lines/systems (except test media by air or nitrogen).
3.4 Instrument items can be damaged during testing should be protected or removed properly.
3.5 Pay attention to the direction of check valves, S.D.N.R valves. The disks of check valves shall be removed if necessary
3.6 The test media shall be fill at lowest point so that the air can escape through the vent pipe located at the highest point of systems. (Except test media by air
or nitrogen)
3.7 Vent points shall be closed when test media overflow from vent points continually.
3.8 Raise the pressure gradually until reach the require test pressure
3.9 Isolate the test pump from the pipe spools/ Systems

3.10 In the case the pressure drop due to decreasing temperature and so on within 5% during test duration, the pressure test are deemed to pass, if no leakage are
detected from visual or soap solution check
3.11 If the pressure drop is found during the test due to leakage at some joints. The pressure shall be released, repaired and re-tested.
3.12 The test pressure shall be held for a sufficient time to permit inspection. Normally at least 15 min. (except plastic material system)
3.13 After the completion the test, the test system shall be depressed by opening high vent point. After depressing, all vent and lowest points should be opened
and the system thoroughly drained. Items which have been removed should be re-installed

5. Hydrostatic test pressure requirement:

5.1. Hydrostatic pressure testing before installation onboard:

 All class I and Class II pipes and integral fittings, after completion of manufacture but before installation and coating, if any, shell be subjected to
hydrostatic test in the surveyor at the following pressure:
PH =1.5 P
PH = test pressure in bar
P = design pressure in bar

4.1 These test are to be carried out after completion of manufacture and before installation on board and where applicable, before coating.
4.2 Pressure testing of small bore pipes (less than 50mm) may be waived at the discretion of the Surveyor, depending on the application
4.3 Where the design temperature does not exceed 3000C, the test pressure is to be equal to 1,5p
(p: design pressure)
4.4 Where it is necessary to avoid excessive stress in way of bends, branched, etc., the Society may give special consideration to the reduction of the test
pressure to a value not less than 1,5p.
4.5 For pipes and valves fitted on ship’s side and bottom are also to be hydrostatically tested at pressure equal to 5 bar .

4.6 Hydrostatic testing after assembly on board.

The piping shall be hydrostatically tested in the presence of surveyor after installation on board, according to Table 1.
Table 2 Hydrostatic testing after installation on board
Piping system Test pressure
Fuel oil piping
Heating coils in tank
Bilge and fire pipes 1.5 Maximum working pressure, minimum 4 bar
Class III pipelines for steam, compressed air and
feed water
Hydraulic piping 1.5 maximum working pressure. The test pressure need
not exceed the working pressure by more than 70 bar

Piping system made from non-metallic material 1.5 maximum working pressure. Minimum 6 bar.
(plastic) Minimum duration 1 hour.

4.7 If pipes specified in 4.7, are being welded together during assembly on board, they shall be hydraulically tested as specified in 4.7 after welding is carried
out, the surveyor may refrain from the hydraulic test.
4.8 Separate pipe lengths, which have been hydraulically tested in the workshop, may be insulated before the hydrostatic test is carried out, except for
connections between the pipe lengths.

6. Documentation and Reports

Upon successful completion hydrostatic pressure test pipe spools/systems, test date, test media and pressure gauge certificate number should be recorded and
signed by Authorized party.
