Auxtero, Kathreen Rose Q.

COVID-19 pandemic has brought atrocious circumstances which are continuously attacking the
world up until now. Numerous countries have experienced financial, social, and economic
consequences which impacted the lives of every individual. However, the case study we have
explored and analyzed manifested that low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) are being
affected immensely more than high-income ones attributable to different situations such as
insufficiency in knowledge, attitude, practices (KAP) regarding COVID-19. In addition, the
Philippines is one of the high-risk third world countries that is composed predominantly with
low- and middle-income individuals.

There are several circumstances to contemplate why LMICs are considered high- risk for
COVID-19. Firstly, LMICs including the Philippines have insufficient opportunity to receive
quality and effective care. Most of the people cannot comply with the finances and requirements
to obtain complementary resources and possibilities. This situation may culminate the rapid
transmission of the disease since treatment and diagnosis are being detected dilatorily. Secondly,
there is an insufficiency in distribution of data and information regarding COVID-19 and the
new implemented protocols to reduce/prevent rapid transmission of the disease. Inadequate
knowledge and information regarding the pandemic may increase the possibility of acquiring the
disease. Next, LMICs encompass a dense population which can also contribute to the rapid
proliferation of the virus. There will be an enormous amount of people to be infected since social
distancing is moderately hard to be compelled, however, there is a great shortage in health
workers which may lead to difficulty in hospital admission and delay in treatment and diagnosis.
Lastly, as the consequence of COVID-19, numerous small businesses are mandated to cease in
operation to minimize the people that are going outside their houses, even in the large companies
where they need to decrease the number of employees because of economic downfall. This
circumstance increases the number of unemployment in LMICs and people have been suffering
to sustain their basic necessities.

I have perceived that it is necessary to obtain data and information regarding COVID-19 to
become enlightened about the daily situation. Being well-informed significant in this time of
pandemic to circumvent the possibility of acquiring the disease. Preventive and safety measures
must be recognized and applied in every situation such as frequent hand washing, house
cleaning, using of sanitizer/alcohol, and wearing of face mask and face shield when running
errands outside. This circumstance has taught us a lot of lessons to be remembered, from the
insufficiency of the resources to the appropriate discipline of the people. As a nursing student, I
will use my knowledge and resources to provide legitimate data and information concerning
COVID-19 to the community by organizing a health promotion program.
