The basic requirements for planning CT systems may be identical for some systems inde-
pendent of the version model.
To simplify handling, the CT System Planning Guide (CT System PG) was created spe-
cifically for each CT system.1 Accordingly, the enclosed CT Basic Planning Guide (CT
Basic PG) was established. This guide includes all basic as well as common requirements
necessary for planning CT systems independent of version or model.
The contents of the CT System PGs are limited to the technically required information
depending on the system used. Its transparency for the Planner and Project Manager facil-
itates planning activities.
1. The CT System PG is the planning guide that specifies the “specific requirements for CT project plan-
ning” for the respective CT model.

tions.
Designation Description
Conditions of flooring Vibration-free location, and/or installation of the gantry and
patient table only on ...
• Concrete flooring
- Concrete class C20/25 to C50/60,
• Bonded screed,
• Access floor with suitable on-site mounting frame or sub-
construction.
As a rule, there is no need for a mounting frame when using
concrete or bonded screed.
• Refer to (Floor and building vibrations / p. 33) for specific
information regarding “vibrations” .
Weight capacity A stress analyst must test the weight capacity of the concrete
flooring or bonded screed.
Other flooring Other flooring requires an on-site friction-free subconstruction
made from steel in the areas of support (e.g. in the case of
wooden construction). Ask your stress analyst!
Floor evenness Level the flooring. Flooring must be even.
For detailed information, refer to the corresponding CT System
PG.
Existing mounting Remove existing mounting frames that are attached to the con-
frames crete flooring with screws. Rework the flooring (with respect to
being level, material), if necessary.
NOTE Observe the minimum extraction force for the points where
the patient table is attached. It also applies to the existing
mounting frame and raised or double flooring. Observe the
safety factor of 4 according to IEC 60601-1.
Installation on floating floor without subconstruction is pro-
hibited.
When replacing older SOMATOM systems, existing mounting frames may be reusable
under certain conditions and specifications. Generally, consider the reuse of existing
mounting frames of older SOMATOM systems as an emergency solution.

overvoltage pro- tions and damage. The overvoltage values as set forth by IEC
tection 60601-1-2 must be adhered to by installing a lightning or over-
voltage protection according to IEC 1024-1 and IEC 1024-2.
• The CT power input includes overvoltage protection up to 2
kV. If additional overvoltage protection is required, it has to
be installed before the residual current protection device
(RCD).
PDS, PDC, and The PDS, PDC, and LCB connection to the on-site power distribu-
LCB connection tion requires a non-detachable connection (no connector).
The on-site CT supply voltage corresponds to the data provided by the manufacturer as
well as to the country-specific requirements.
Refer to the corresponding CT System PG.
Designation Description
Cable protection Required according to IEC and UL.
• All cables must be routed in on-site rectangular cable
ducts or in cable conduits.
• Preferably, cable ducts are installed in the flooring, e.g. to
prevent tripping.
Routing of the system As a rule, routing has to be in accordance with the applicable
and line voltage cables guidelines of the country in question.
Permissible bending Maintain the permissible bending radius when routing the
radius cables through cable ducts and cable conduits; refer to the
“System connections" chapter (System connections / p. 45).
NOTE If not stated otherwise, all cable duct sizes in all CT Planning
Guides are provided as inner dimensions/clear dimensions.
Tower PCs 0
NOTE Maintain a distance of 120 mm to the wall for cable inlets and
cooling.
Other CT components 0
Designation Remarks
Routing Route separately (if possible, through a second cable duct) from the
on-site line voltage cable and all cables that are not part of the
system.
Minimum dis- To cables that are not part of the system: > 1 m
tance
Bending radius General formula: Cable diameter x 10
Damages Avoid cable damage while routing; if necessary, route individually.
Excess cable Because of heat development:
• Let the excess cable meander!
• Do not roll it up!
• Do not bundle, e.g. with cable ties and so on!
Fiber-optic cables 0
Designation Remarks
Damages Avoid cable damage while routing; if necessary, route individually.
Contamination Prevent the contamination of the cable ends.
Bending radius Min. 50 mm
Tensile Force Max. 35 N
When supplying air from the outside (fresh air), we recommend the on-site use of coarse
filters:
• Filter class EU3 to EU4
- For filtering dust particles up to > 10 µm (DIN 24185/Part 2)
Air pollution 0
Room ventilation has to ensure that noxious matters do not enter the room.
Pollution through hydrosulfides regardless how small the amount in air has to be pre-
vented.
The most common sources for hydrosulfides are:
• Exhaust fumes and waste water of film processors
• Exposed sewer drainage
- No syphon included in sewer pipe or in floor drain
• Exhaust fumes from diesel power units
- Emergency power, and so on.
If there is a type of contamination hazard, corrective action is required, e.g.:
• Extractor fans,
• Syphon,
• Changes in air intake, and so on.
Connection value 0
HF interference
Electromagnetic field : 30 MHz - 1 GHz corresponding to class A, CISPR 11.
Magnetic field 0
Interference immunity 0
Designation Description
ESD 3 kV for contact discharge and 8 kV for discharge into air.
HF interference 3 V/m (26 MHz - 1 GHz); Note: The level for a mobile
(Electromagnetic field) phone is higher (in the vicinity of the antenna).

Acceleration 0
To avoid system damage, the following conditions are mandatory for transport:
• Maximum acceleration according to DIN IEC 721 Part 3, Class 2M2.
Tolerance:
Designation Description
Gantry and patient table • Crane suspension for unloading the gantry from a truck.
• Gantry with a special transport device.
• Patient table with premounted transport rollers at the
table base.
Other CT components The dimensions of the LCB, cabinets, operating console,
components of the imaging system, tower PCs, monitors,
and keyboards do not present difficulties.
Transporting device 0
Order procurement
A transporting device for moving in the gantry has to be ordered separately for all
non-European countries.
Tab. 12 Transporting device - order procurement
Sensation family
Others Refer to the corresponding CT System PG.
Functions
• The transport rollers can be swiveled in or out.
• The transport height is adjustable in both directions, downward, and upward.
Tab. 13 Roller functions
Function Use
Swiveling out During standard transport.
Swiveling in The transport width can be reduced when mov-
ing through narrow passages during transport.
CAUTION [ hz_pgdoc_F13G01U16M02 ]
Transport with the rollers swivelled in is permissible only
when narrow places make it impossible to transport the sys-
tem with the rollers swivelled out.
Tipping hazard!
¹ As soon as the system has passed through narrow
passages, the transport rollers must be swivelled out
again.
Transport weights 0
Design access floors for a weight capacity of min. 400 kg per slab/plate. During gantry
transport, the load may be higher at certain individual points (3-point load, e.g. due to
uneven flooring).
NOTE If necessary, cover the transport routes with metal sheets for
load distribution.
CAUTION [ hz_pgdoc_F13G01U16M02 ]
Transport with the rollers swivelled in is permissible only
when narrow places make it impossible to transport the sys-
tem with the rollers swivelled out.
Tipping hazard!
¹ As soon as the system has passed through narrow
passages, the transport rollers must be swivelled out
again.
For certain CT products the possibility for craning is already integrated into the gantry as
shown in the following table:
The patient tables of CT systems are fully assembled and delivered on a wooden pallet. A
ramp to move the PHS from the pallet is included in the delivery.
A transport device (transport device with rollers) is premounted at the table base. It must
be removed after installation and stored at the customer site.
The transport route must be smooth and level.
NOTE Store the transport device at the customer site for possible
subsequent use by service or moves within the hospital, and
so on.
