Scope This Japanese Industrial Standard specifies the screw plugs to be used for automobiles, hereinafter referred to as the "plugs". . Types The plugs shall be classified into 7 types as given in Table 1, according to types of screw threads and shapes. Table 1. Shapes and Dimensions The shapes and dimensions of the plugs shall conform to Attached Tables 1 to 7. 4. Screw Threads The types and grades of the screw threads for the plugs shall conform to Table 2. Applicable Standards and Reference Standards: See page 6. 2 Types and Grades of Screw Threads Grade The maximum permissible dimensions of the taper pipe thread and metric taper threads which have been processed with plating shall be as agreed between the parties concerning acceptance, The grade of 6 g or Grade 2 of JIS B 0209, However, the maximum permissible dimensions of the metric screw threads which have been processed with plating shall be permissible to the maximum permissible dimensions of 4h or Grade 1 external screw threads, D 2101-1987 Table 2. (2) The surface shall be smooth and be free from harmful defects such as flushes, burrs, nicks and rust. (3) The threaded portions of Class 1 taper screw plugs shall be 1/16 taper shape as the standard, and shall be free from any sag, on the larger diameter side after the basic diameter, which is recognized to be impedimental to functions, (4) The surface roughness of the bearing surface parts of the Class 2 metric screw plugs shall be 3.2 a of JIS B 0601. 3 D 2101-1987 Table 3. Remarks 1. The meanings of the surface defects shall be in accord- ance with JIS B 0101, 2. The dimension ¢ in the table shall be in accordance with the following: (a) For metric fine screw threads and metric coarse screw threads: nominal diameter of screw thread (mm) (») For taper pipe threads and metric taper threads: outside diameter of basic diameter (mm) 6. Materials ‘The materials of the plugs shall generally be in accordance with Table 4, Table 4. However, regarding the hardness of quenching and tempering, it shall be as agreed between the parties concerning acceptance. 4 D 2101-1987 7, Surface Treatment Regarding the surface treatment of the plugs, generally the MFZn 5-C of JIS D 0201 shall be processed for steel products. In the case where other surface treatment than the MFZn 5-C is required, it shall be so designated. Furthermore, in the case where the plugs which have been processed with quenching and tempering have been processed with plating, the brittleness elimination treatment shall be processed, as required. 8. (1) Regarding the surface defects, the presence of defects shall be discriminated by visual inspection or by using a magnifier, and the widths and depths of defects shall be measured by a micro- scope. However, the depth shall be measured on a section, as required, The measurements of the plated plug shall be carried out after removal of the plating. 5 D 2101-1987 (2) The bearing surface parts of the Class 2 metric screw plugs shall be inspected by using the surface roughness comparison specimen of JIS B 0859 or the measuring instrument of surface roughness of JIS B 0651. 8.4 Inspection on Inclination of Bearing Surface In the inspection on the inclination of bearing surface of the Class metric screw plugs, the maximum value (£) of clearance shall be obtained in accordance with the method of Fig. 1, processing a chamfer on the limit gauge for screw thread (go-side) of Table 5 or a tool in accordance with this, as appropriate, taking the underhead ending of screw thread into consideration, and the value shall conform to the requirement of Attached Tables 4 to 6. Designation The plugs shall be designated by the number of Standard or title of Standard, type, nominal designation of screw thread x length of underhead and designated items. However, the length of underhead shall be omitted for those other than Class 2 A and B. 6 D 2101-1987 Furthermore, in the designated items, surface treatment, heat treat- ment, shape of screw end and shape of under cut of screw thread shall be designated in parentheses, as required.
