STANDARD ars Performance Requirements of Turn Signal D 1605-1988 Switches for Automobiles 1. Scope This Japanese Industrial Standard Specifies the performance of and the inspection methods for the turn signal switches for automobiles, hereinafter referred to as the "switch", but not those for the two-wheeled ‘motor vehicles. - Romarke: Tho units and numerical values given in { } in this Standard are in accordance with the traditional System of Units and are appended for informative reference. 2. Performance 3.1 Operability of Lever (2) Operating angle ‘The operating angle of the lever shall be within SUP oF the specified angio when tested by the method of 5.1 (1). (4) Lovor play_ When tosted by the method of 5.1 (4), the lever shall Show no lever play in excess of 8 mm. 3.2 Strength of Lever When the lever strength is tested by the method of 5.2, no abnoemality shal ry shall be generated in the connecting circuits or the switehing functions, and after removing the load, the sum of deformations in the lever and the installation part shall be within 10 mm measured at the ‘edge of the lover. 3.8 Installation Strength of Lead Wire and Terminals The installation strength of lead wire and terminals shall show no harmful deformations or no looseness either in the terminal fixing places or in the connecting circuits When tested by the method of 5.3, 3.4 Contact Resistance Voltage drop owing to contact resistance shall not exceed the value shown in Table 1 when tested by the Method of 5.4. Table 1, Voltage Drop by Contact Resistance Unit: v Ttem ‘Voltage Drop Before endurance test 0.15 During and after endurance 005 test Copyright by the Fapanese Industral Standards Mor Tan 13 114052 2003 VIS DxLEOS 88 MM 4S33L08 OOVLDbE 2 a D 1605-1988 3.5 Insulation Resistance Insulation resistance shall be 1 MQ or over when tested by the mathod of 5.5. 3.6 Resistance to Vibration When a switch is tested by the method of 5.6, there shall be no contact deflection or no harmful abnormal noise and, after vibration is applied, the operating force shall conform to 3.1 (2), and contact resistance shall come up to the value of 3.4 Lelure the endurance test, and the insulation resistance shall conform to the condition of 3.5. 3.7 Resistance to Temperature When a switch is tested by the method of 5.7, the operating force shall comform to 3.1 (2), the contact resistance shall come up to the value of 3.4 before the endurance test, the insulation resistance shall conform to 3.5, and the self-cancel shell conform to 3.10 (1). 3.8 Resistance to Humidity When a switch is tested by the method of 5.8 and left to stand for 24 hours in the normal temperature and humidity, thore shall be no abnormalities and contact resistance shall come up to the value before the endurance test of 3.4, and insulation resistance shall conform to 3.5. 3.9 Durability When a owitch is tested by the method of 5.9, there shall be no abnormalities in any part, operating force shall fall + 40 $ of the value value inspection, contect resistance shall comply with 3.4, insulation resistance shall comply with 3,8, and self-cancel operability shall comply with 3.10. Referenve; The horn sider shall not cause electrical abnormalities. 3.10 Self-cancel Operability The eelf-cancelling device, if equipped, shall operate as follows: (1) When the switch is tested by the method of 6.10 (1), it shall return to N point without fail, and the torque of the cam shaft at that time Shull be 98 N-em {10 kgf-cm) or under. (2) When the switch is tested by the method of 5.10 (2), it shall not pass N-point into the other side. (3) When the switch is tested by the method fo 5.10 (3), any part of it shall have no deformations or cracks, the torque of the cam shaft shall be not more than 294 N-cu (30 kgf.em}, and after test, it shall conform to the requirements of 3.10 (1). 4. Testing Conditions 4.1 ‘The Standard Condition of the Testing Place Unless otherwise specified, the test shall be made in the normal temperature and humidity specified i JIS Z 8703, 4.2 Electrical Instruments for Meaeurement Tho voltmeter and ampere meter shall bo one of Class 0.5 specified In JIS C 1102 or superior, and the insulation resistance meter shall be one of 500 V specified in JIS C 1301 or JIS C 1302. 4,3. Testing Method 5.1 Operation Test of Lever ‘The operation test of lever shall be made as followa? (4) Inspection of Lever Play To Inspect the lever play, measure at the and of the lover tho vange where the lever moves freely at N point, L point and R point without being influenced by the positioning action of the spring on the operating plane of lever. 5.2 Inspection of Lever Robustness Apply a force of 50 N {5.1 kgf} to the lever, at a point about 10 mm from its tip towards its notational center, perpendi- cularly to the lever in its operational plane, clockwise when the lever is at R point and counterclockwise which at L point, and then perpendicularly to its operational plane, each for 1 min. 5.3 Robustness Test for Lead Wire and Terminal Mounting ‘The installation strength of the lead wire and the terminals shall be tested by applying the static load of 78 N {8 kgf} for one minute, (1) for the switches to the hody of which the terminals are connected directly, in the direction of the terminal connection and, (2) for the switches with lead wire, in the direction of drawing out the lead wire bundle. oosriett bythe Japanese Industral Standards Mon fan 13 11408 2003 JIS DALLOS 48 MM 4533L08 OOHLLLY & 5 D 1605-1988 5.4 Contact Resistance Test To measure the contact resistance, apply the specified maximum load of Fable 2 in the portion betweon the input and output terminals and, for the switches with lead wire, in the portion between the input and the output at the end of the lead wire 80 cm from the terminals, measure the voltage drops owing to the switches contact resistance three times , and take the average value of the measurements. Nominal voltage 12 24 ‘Test voltage 13.5 27.0 5.5 Insulation Resistance Test The insulation resistance shall be measured among each terminal, when the lever is put at N point, and after the lever is @ —_stutea“tor ana R points respectively. 5.6 Resistance to Vibration Test The resistance (o vibration shall be tested by the stage 4 specified in JIS D 1601, for the 3 points of N point, 1 point, and R point respectively, and the duration of applying vibration shall be as given in Table 3. ‘Yable 3. (2) Put the switch in a low temperature chamber, place the lever at N point, lower the temperature in the chamber to -30°C, after the temperature is stabilized, Keep the condition tor about 60 minutes, and then raise the temperature gradually to -20°C. After the temperature has been stabilized, hold further for 30 minutes and then operate the changeover action of the switch ten times, (2) Put the switch in a high temperature chamber, put the lever at N point, raise the temperature of the tank.to 8U°U, after the temperature is nearly stabilized, keep the condition for @ about 60 minutes, and then lower the temperature to 60°C gradually. After the temperature has been stabilized, hold further for 30 minutes, and then operate the changeover action of the switch ten times. Eopyright by the Japanese Industrial Stands Mor Tan 13 114059 2003 E TIS Deib0s 66 mH 533608 OOWDES 6 mm | 6 D 1605-1988 5.7.2 Test for Cyclic Temperature Change Put the switeh in a high temperature chamber, raise the ambiont temperature in the chamber to 80°C, maintain the temperature for 3 hours after the temperature is stabilized, then take the switch out of the chamber, allow it to stand under room temperature and humidity for 30 minutes, keep it in a low temperature chamber until the temperature inside the chamber is -30°C, hold for two hours and then release 4t in the normal temperature and humidity conditions for 30 minutes. Considering the above sequential operations to be one cycle, carry out three eyoles repeatedly. 5,8 Humidity Resistance Test Put the switch in an enclosed contsiner, install to the base so that it totates 1.5 times per minute horizontelly, and make the test of M1 specified in JIS D 0203. 5.9 Endurance Test Install the swtch on an endurance test base, operate the switoh lover in the sequence of N+ L (R) + N > R (L) +N as one cycle and make the test in accordance with the condition specified in ‘Table 4. In this case, a flasher unit shall not be included in the circuit but connection shall be made directly to the electric source. The contact resistance shall be measured for each 25000 cycles. Remarks: The power supply to be used here shall comform to the following specifications. (2) The dynamic displacement of the power supply voltage shall be 1.0 V or under in the case of the maximum load rushing time and, when any displacement happens, the time needed to recover 63 & of the displacement shall be not ‘more than 5 ms. (2) ‘The static displacement of the power supply voltage shall be within 2% for the load variation from 0 to the maximum (not including rush), and within 2 % for the input voltage variation. (1) Self-cancel mechanism test Check the self-cancel action of the e Switch, as well as the torque of the cam shaft in working the cam shaft for the eancel about 20 times per minute with the lever at and R points, in each case rotating the cam shaft 20 % 150 times per nin, (2) Cancel overrun test_ With the lever located at L and R points, rotate the cam shaft at 150r.p.m., and check whether or not any cancel overrun happens. (3) Ingpection of resistance to lock After fixing the lever at L point {ort polit) not to ako sell-cancelling, rotate the self-cancelling cam in the cancelling direction at 80 r.p.m., let its eam-projection pass 500 times, and check the lock-resistance and the torque of the cam shaft passing the lock.
