Introduction

The following work is carried out from the different theoretical references located in

the knowledge environment and that were studied and analyzed in a preliminary way to

respond to each of the activities proposed in the guide of technological assessment and

negotiation activities of the course, Unit No 1.

Intellectual property, as it becomes the pillar of globalization, not only has the

protection of internal legislation but also international treaties that facilitate its protection and

exploitation by the owner, as well as a way to encourage innovation in order to increase the

value of companies in the market and obtain sustainable competitive advantages that transmit

trust, security and commitment to their users.

According to the contributions of each member of the group and the subsequent

debate, the collaborative work was given, being distributed as follows: An infographic is

made with the topics established by the guide, each student develops a problem tree from

the result of the analysis carried out by each student and in a group, in addition to making a

video explaining the previously defined problem tree and the recommendations for the

company in Colombia to avoid the obstacles identified

Through this work, knowledge on the subject of industrial designs will be expanded,

through an infographic, research is carried out on the obstacle lack of information on

benefits, where the problems are reflected, causes and consequences that will be related in a

problem tree, in addition to proposing two recommendations to avoid this obstacle, taking

3
into account the concepts studied in this unit, leaving as evidence our skills as future

professionals of industrial engineering.

Objectives

General

Recognize the importance of the digilitation and implementation of information

technology in Colombian companies

Especific

 Recognize the current problems facing Colombian companies that lead to

digitalization

 Know the need for digital transformation

 Deterrmine the importance of the patent in a competitive market.

 identify the requirements that are required in Colombia to achieve the

registration and protection of a patent

4
The activity consists of:

This course is in English and as it is specified in the Rules and conditions for course

development: “The student must develop the proposed activities on due time, in English.

Contributions in different languages won´t be evaluated”.

Individual

The student must develop the following activities:

2. According to the understanding of the previous references and your own research on

internet, each student of the group chooses one of the following topics to broaden his

knowledge:

Copyrights

3. Post the topic selection in the Discussion forum – Unit 1, according to the following

chart, also, as a group, identify who will be the student in charge of delivering the final

document at the Evaluation Environment:

Activities Assignment and work Responsabilities

Unit Name: Unit 1 - Step 2 - Comprehend intellectual property

Selected Topic Student Name

Industrial Designs Student 4. Egna Rocío Guzmán

Trade Secrets Student 5.omar andres Villareal

Student chosen to submit

the final document to the Carolina Ramirez Duran

Evaluation Enviroment:

4. According to the topic chosen previously, the review of Unit 1 references and your own

search on internet, each student must:

Design a creative one-page infographic the following:

9
Luis Ezequiel Tapasco – Trademarks

10

Collaborative

The group must develop the following activities:

5. Each student reads and reviews the following reference for Unit 1 at the Learning

Environment

Dane (2019), Technical Bulletin Survey of Technological Development and Innovation -

Manufacturing Industry 2017-2018. Chapter 6 Intellectual property and Quality

certifications (pp 34-39).

6. Based on the understanding of chapter 6 of the previous reference and his own research

on internet, the group selects one of the obstacles to register industry property identified by

Colombian companies in the manufacturing industry, posting the vote of each student in the

following chart:

Problem selection chart

Group Number: 212032_73

Unit name: Unit 1 - Step 2 - Comprehend intellectual property

Obstacles to register Intellectual Property Votes

Excessive processing time

Lack of benefit information XXXX

Poor effectiveness in providing protection

Unfavorable cost-benefit balance

Difficulty meeting requirements

Low internal management capacity

No new ideas are generated X

liable to obtain records

Obstacle selected by the group: Lack of benefit information

7. Once the obstacle has been selected by the group, each student develops the following

activity:

Hand draw a billboard using the resources you have (cardstock, paper, acrylic board) as a

visual aid for a presentation of the problem selected previously, faced by Colombian

companies to protect its intellectual property, including:

 Student name - Date - Unit name

 A problem tree with: problem, causes and consequences related to the selected

obstacle (it means the obstacles with more votes) faced by companies in Colombia

to register its intellectual property.

8. Each student records a 2 - 3 minutes’ video where he appears using his camera, showing

the PowerPoint presentation indicating his name, mentioning the date, explaining the

problem tree defined previously and the recommendations for the company in Colombia to

avoid the obstacle identified.

Save the video in YouTube or any other resource to get a public link and share it in the

Discussion Forum – Unit 1.

Conclusions

In the development of trademarks, it is concluded that utility models protect

distinctive signs, not inventions. By trademark is understood any sign used to distinguish in

the market, products, services, industrial and commercial establishments.

As we can see in the development of the guide, intellectual property is a means of

protecting the rights of creators with respect to their creations. It is not only a concept that

is used to protect authors and creators through legislation, but which is used to encourage

creativity and innovation, as well as to encourage fair business practices that contribute to

economic and social development.
