SP-100 GANTRY SIGN

100.1 Description
This work shall comprise of furnishing and installing gantry with traffic signs on concrete
foundations carrying bolted to it gantry assembly, as per drawings.

100.2 Material

100.2.1 All structural steel for shapes and plate shall conform to ASTM A36 or equivalent with minimum
Fy = 36 k/m2 (250 N/mm2).

100.2.2 All bolts shall be high tensile steel bolts conforming to ASTM A325 X or equivalent with thread
excluded from shear plane.

100.2.3 Sign Panels: Sign panels to informatory sign shall be from enameled steel or aluminum alloy
plate of 3 mm thickness.

100.3 Welding

100.3.1 All welding shall conform to AWS using E70 XX electrodes.

100.3.2 Minimum weld shall be 6mm fillet weld unless specified otherwise.

100.3.3 Gantry leg shall have full beaming on base plate with full penetration but weld.

100.3.4 Gantry shall be fabricated from plate with continuous weld. Care shall be taken to avoid distortion.

100.3.5 Welding symbols are as per AISC specifications.

100.4 Painting

100.4.1 All surface preparation and paining shall be done as per AISC specification and as per steel
structures painting council.

100.4.2 All loose material and mill scale shall be removed from the profile by sand blasting and cleaned
before applying the shop primer. 2nd and 3rd coats are to be applied after erection.

100.4.3 All steel profile welded at site shall be left unpainted 75 mm round the weld and to be painted at
site after welding.

100.5 Foundation

100.5.1 Concrete for foundation shall be Concrete Class A in accordance with General Specifications.

100.5.2 Reinforcing steel shall be Tor or Ribbed with minimum yield strength of 60,000 psi (420 N/mm2)
conforming to BS 4461 or equivalent.

100.6 All pipes shall be G. I. Pipe conforming to ASTM A53 grade B.

100.7 Sign panels and reflective sheeting etc shall conform with the requirements of General
Specifications and these Particular Specifications.
100.8 Measurement

The quantities of overhead traffic road sign gantries shall be measured in number of each gantry
sign supplied and installed at site as shown on drawing or as directed by the Engineer.

100.9 Payment

The quantities measured as determined above shall be paid for at the contract unit price for the
items listed below and as shown in the Bill of Quantities which price and payment shall be full
compensation for furnishing all labour, material, tools, equipment and for execution, concreting,
backfilling and erection / fabrication of gantry and all incidental costs necessary to complete the
work as prescribed in this item.
