TEACHER TALK
One word in the selection is accompanies. Say it with
me: accompanies. Follow the vocabulary routine.
1. Define: Accompanies means “goes along with
something.” En español, accompanies quiere decir
“que va junto con algo”.
2. Example: Jake’s dog accompanies him on car
rides. En español: El perro de Jake lo acompaña en
los paseos en automóvil.
3. Ask: What is a synonym for accompanies?
Examples include: escorts, goes along with, etc.
4. Now let’s look at the picture that demonstrates the
word accompanies. (Point to the dog.) Look how
cozy Jake and his dog are. The dog looks quite
happy to accompany Jake on his trip. They are
going to have fun together.

campaign. Follow the vocabulary routine.
1. Define: A campaign is a series of actions planned
and carried out to bring about a particular
result. En español, campaign significa “una serie
de acciones planificadas y llevadas acabo para
producir un resultado en particular”. Campaign in
English and campaña in Spanish are cognates.
2. Example: The woman signed up to work on Mr.
Baker’s campaign for the state senate. En español:
La mujer se inscribió para trabajar en la campaña
para la candidatura del Sr. Baker en el senado
estatal.
3. Ask: Name things that happen in a campaign.
4. (Point to the picture.) How do politicians win a
campaign? One way is to ask people to volunteer.
It’s an important way to support our candidates.

library. Is it more fun having someone go along
with you?
● The President of the United States goes on
many trips. With your partner, make a list of who
accompanies the President when he travels.
● Now let’s say accompanies together three more

or a friend campaigned for a school office. Was it a
successful campaign? If you didn’t run, what would
you like to campaign for some day?
● Read these phrases aloud to each other. Talk about
