Nicole Skanes Isabel St Pierre Date February 3, 2021 Learning Objectives Students will: • Be able to use social media as effective means of communication in the classroom. • Understand that their social interactions on social media platforms are an extension of real social interactions. • Obtain a better understanding of some of the positive effects social media can provide in the classroom.
Assessment • Demonstrate an understanding of effective social media
strategies for a classroom through participation in questions and answers via Kahoot. • Demonstrate an understanding of social media utilization through interacting with the class Facebook group.
Materials • Google Slides
• Kahoot (accessed through phone/computer/tablet etc.)
Introduction • Present title and central questions to class. (1 minute)
• Introduce fun facts and the social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube) we will be discussing. (1 minute) Body Social Media Usage in the Classroom • Facebook in the classroom (4 minutes) • We will discuss how the class, as future teachers may be able to utilize Facebook in their own classrooms. The discussion will start with presenting positive aspects of Facebook in relation to a classroom. • The class will then be introduced to the Facebook group created for the lesson with examples as to how it can work in real life. The students will have the option to join the group. • Twitter in the classroom (2 minutes) • Present how the future teachers of the class can use Twitter in their classroom and the positive impact Twitter can have with their students. • YouTube in the classroom (2 minutes) • Present how the class of future students can use YouTube in their teaching and future classroom highlighting the positive applications of the service. Interactive Question and Answer: Kahoot (8 minutes) • The class will be asked to participate in a set of questions through the service of Kahoot. Kahoot could potentially be used in their future classrooms. • The questions will test the learning objectives, creating a better understanding of social media usage in the classroom.
