Brief chosen: Brief 4: Music Video and Website

How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning and
meet the requirements of your chosen brief?

Product 1
I will show two different representations as required in the brief, these being male and homosexual, therefore
representing gender and sexuality.
My fictitious artist is Never Knew Why, I believe this appropriate for the target audience of 16-25 year old’s as a lot of
people within this age range will follow mainstream bands. The song itself came out in 2020 and is originally by a
rock band therefore would fall into the target audience quite well.
As I am producing this video for Warner Music Group, I had to consider the kind of artists they sign and the genres of
music common for the label, my song fits into this as the original artist is of a similar genre to Twenty One Pilots who
are signed by Warner Music Group.
Within my music video I plan to have two different mise-en-scene as required. As I am splitting production to
accompany the needs of the performance aspect and narrative aspect, each will have their own mise-en-scene
respectively.

Product 2
I will only show the representation of the band on the website. These will include a picture of the band on the set of
the music video and a more formal photo replicating that of a photoshoot, which will potentially be used as a mock
album cover photo. After looking at other bands websites, I have gained several ideas on how to create mine to a
similar standard and hence targeting 16-25 who hence these websites are aimed at. I have also analyzed an artists
website who are signed be WMG to get some general conventions for my website. My plan is to have a colour
scheme that replicates the single on the website in order to create synergy between the two products. This is also a
technique I have found through analyzing other bands websites. For the audio-visual content, I will have a message
from one of the members of the band speaking to their fans and urging them to buy the new single. In addition to this
my addition page linking off of the home page will consist of the upcoming tour dates to see the band.

How do you intend to link your media products to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the
digitally convergent nature of your media production? (approx. 100 word)
I plan on linking my products through the colour scheme. This will be yellow and red to replicate the singles name,
Glitter and Crimson. When artists release new music, the colour scheme and layout of their website is modified to
reflect this. As one of the original images is going to be from the set of the music video, this also links my two media
products together. In addition to this, the audio-visual content on the website will be of a band member promoting the
song and talking about their upcoming tour.
