Second term test Group B

Reading Comprehension .
Ex.1.Read the text and choose the correct answer A, B, C or D.
A unique pianist-It’s an expression of talent! It’s life lived to its fullest! It’s unique!
Who could possibly combine incredible talent and a rare determination to produce something so uniquely
beautiful?
Lei Wei, a 23-year-old pianist from Beijing who moved the hearts of the world when he played the piano on
‘China’s Got Talent’ with his feet. The audience and judges listening to his performance of Richard
Clayderman’s Mariage D’amour were stunned by the young man’s outstanding talent.
Lie lost both his arms while playing of “hide n seek” in an accident with electrical wires when he was ten.
However, this did not prevent him from pursuing his livelong dream of becoming a musician. He began to
learn how to play the piano at 19, even though his first teacher gave up on him saying that it was impossible
to play the piano using only one’s toes. He suffered from cuts and cramps as he persisted in learning to play
with his feet, but in the end he proved his teacher wrong. Lei Wei’s determination and success lies in his
parents’ insistence that he is no different from other young people. Their constant encouragement, love and
devotion has enabled Lie to use his feet and mouth to do things people normally do with their hands. He
skillfully dresses himself, feeds himself, brushes his teeth and even uses the computer. Most amazingly
however, he masterfully presses the piano keys to create beautiful melodies.Lei Wei entered the talent show
because he wanted his parents to be proud of him but he achieved much more than this. One of the judges
realised that there was more to Lei’s performance than the way he played the piano. When he inquired how
Lie managed to play so well, Lie replied:” For people like me , there are only two options. One was to
abandon all dreams which would lead to a quick, hopeless death. The other was to struggle without arms to
live an outstanding life.”
Lie’s willpower points to what really matters in life. His life serves as an example to people who are
challenged by disabilities but also to people who are simply dissatisfied with life. His desire to
‘live a wonderful life’ is one we should all live by!
