Textbook question
1. Two examples when I have had different points of view with others :
 When my friends and I were given two options of our homework, we just had to pick
one. Unexpectedly, only me who chose option 1- which was harder to deal with. This
might because I am the person willing to do something sophisticated to bring the best
performance, but my friends are not. We understood that teamwork is the most
important factor to get the job done, therefore, instead of fighting for our decisions ,
we had discussed combining our ideas to complete our work.
 My mother wanted me to study Marketing due to the gossip of the neighbors about
career prospects of this major. However, I know I am good at analyzing and tend to
work with number so I would like to choose Accounting as my specialization. We ended
up having a conversation to share our understanding. I persuaded my mother
successfully and I liked Marketing as well after listening to her. Maybe after I complete
my study in Accounting, I will choose Marketing as the next major.
It is impossible to avoid the dissent in communication. Accepting that statement, I have solution
for myself when it comes to these situations. Speak up for my idea and be willing to listen to
others ideas as well, after that, choose the best option to get the job done.
2. As a customer, a citizen, or a student, I always feel myself power, in control when it comes to
service. Since customer is the main factor develop sucessfulness of the market, it is clearly that I
could gain respect from the salesman and they have to give me pleasure to do what I want and
serve what I need,but everything has its limit. Similarly, citizen and student is the core of a
country so I am treated appreciately, I am be able to learn many things.
3. Three strategies to communicate with non-native English speakers :
 Use body language : as it is difficult to express the ideas with those who are not good at
English, combining with body language can help them imagine what we are talking and
understand us easily.
 Talk slowly enough: so they can catch up with what we are saying
 Be respectful : English is not their first language so do not look down on people who
speak English not really well.
4. Three privileges that I have experienced :
 Being a student, my bus ticket costs cheaper than the adults.
 Being a girl in Vietnam, I do not have to go the military service.

Portfolio Reflection:
After completing this session, the core value which I have recognized is the perception plays an
important role in how we think and the diversity of the culture in the world . I have acquired practical
knowledge ,which explain my past experience about different person have different perception. Some of
the perception models and country’s culture help me realize why people act that way, now it becomes
easier to understand and analyze one’s action. I have learned how to communicate with foreigners and
sharpening my perspective, I may use these skills to support my career orientation. In conclusion,
finishing learning the session, I will practice the skill that I have gained and enhance the way I think to be
well-prepared for the future.
