2. Communication skills is a critical skills in our daily life, especially in work. The first situation that
need communication skill is when you need to introduce your individual ability when you are
asked in a job interview. The second situation is when you present your idea and plan to
colleagues and boss. And the third situation is in a meeting with partner or potential customer,
we need to be persuasive and reliable.
3. I have experienced a breakdown in communication due to lack of clarity or purposefulness in my
whole life, but the first thing that pops up in my mind is when I was communicate with my
friend in Vietnamese. Vietnamese is well-known for a lot of homophones but antonym, at that
time my friend was driving me and show me a constructing aerial railway, he said there will be a
train running over your head soon. However, the word train in Vietnamese has got 2 meanings
which is train and ship. Therefore I thought he mean ship so I scold him because the ship cannot
go on land. From all my experiences of mistaking, I have learned that to avoid confusion for the
message receiver, we have to transmit information in a complete and clear manner.
II. Portfolio reflection
After the first two sessions of the course, I have some reflections. First of all, the learning
resources are diverse and portfolio questions are practical, which could help me a lot in my
future career. The most significant value I perceive is that our lecturers are really committed,
friendly and enthusiastic in order to teach us practical knowledge. Next, the examples which
based on the lecturers' experience blur the line between theory and reality, made the lessons
became closer and also help me realize the core value of this course. The lessons enables me to
understand communication in business, as well as letting me discover myself by recognizing how
my communication skill is. Therefore, I myself try my best to practice what I’ve learned in class
to improve the communication skill. Finally, to achieve my aim, my preparation is to study more
diligent and try to review the lesson before each class.
