Answer:
1. The recent research that I have read was entitled “Factors why students
habitually late in class: The effects on their academic performance”

(This research was came from our section when I was in SHS, we also had
colloquium on this research).

2. The purpose of this research was to know the factors why many students are
late comers, and how it affects their academic performance. This study was to give
solutions or recommendations to prevent lateness among Senior High School
Students in Arellano University. It also tackled the idea of “Filipino Time” wherein
it can be a factor why students are late,  being punctual is a bit challenging for
Filipino. However, based on the findings of this research, there’s a lot of factors
why students are late in class. It includes the traffic, being a working student, far
from school, lack of preparation time, and helping household chores. It only says
that students were not late just because they want to, but there’s always a reason
behind that lateness. Aside from that, being late in class can also have an effect on
your performance. Based on the findings, if the students habitually late in class
they tend to miss the lessons, discussions or even activities that can lead to a poor
academic performance.

Hence, the researchers found out that in Arellano University they decided
that the students who came early before their class time will receive a signature
signed by the Prefect of Discipline. To those students who came late, there’s no
signature on their index card. At the end of the school year, the students who got
50 signatures will sign their clearance, but on the other hand the students who don't
receive an exact signature will have consequences. By this, it will lessen the
numbers of students who are late comers.

Overall, the researchers recommend that students should give enough time
for their preparation, and leave the house at least 3o minutes before their exact
class time.  From this study, the researchers concluded that the lateness  among
students has negative reflection due to affecting other students. However, late
students coming to class distract the rest of the students and disrupts the flow of the
teacher’s discussion. That’s why the researchers also quote that being punctual is
one quality that people should possess, knowing that it can show your integrity and
respect to the other people’s time.

2.  The researcher observed that student’s lateness in Arellano University, Jose
Rizal Campus are increasing each day. Students tend to come into class thinking
that it’s okay and there will be no punishment in this case. That’s why the
researcher decided to conduct a study to know the root causes of this problem. The
respondent of this research was Senior High School Students in Arellano
University GAS strand cluster 6. The researcher wanted to know the causes why a
lot of students in Arellano University came late and what the coping strategies of
those students. This research helps the school itself to provide solutions on how to
lessen the numbers of students who attend class late, and give students better
recommendations to avoid lateness.

3.  If I were given the chance to conduct my own research that is related to what
I’ve read it is about “The Causes of Student’s Poor Academic Performance: The
effects on their behavior” because I believe that one of the reasons why students
have a poor academic performance is their lateness or tiredness. Based on what I
see on my classmates before, if they are late in class they are already absent, and it
will deduct on their grades. And if they habitually late in class it surely affects their
learning knowing that they will miss important information, activities, or quizzes.

By this research, it’s not totally focused on student’s lateness, but it will
make significance considering that some of the students are failed and most
teachers and classmates don’t know what is the life of their students outside the
school that affected their education. I also want to conduct this research because I
don’t want to judge students who have lower grades. I want to know deeper and
gain knowledge about their situation, and experiences why they perform poorly in
school. The factors that challenge them to do more and strive harder.
