Mid Autumn Semester Examination 2012-13

Date: Time :2 hours Full Marks : 30 No. of Students : 124
Sub, No.: CE31001 Sub. Name: Design ofRC Structures
Third Year B.Tech(H) and B.Arch(H) of Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture

Note: Fig. 1 shows the floor plan of a building. Rectangular columns of same size are provided in
each beam junction. One end of the columns may be considered as fixed and the other end as
hinged. The concrete grade is M20 and the steel grade is Fe415. The slab thickness may be taken as
125 mm for load calculation. Additional dead load of 1kN/m2 may be taken for floor finish
including ceiling plastering. The live load is 3kN/m2 • The floor to floor height is 6500mm. Assume
suitable data giving proper reasons. Answer ALL questions.

1. Design the slab panel D2-E2-E1-Dl. Provide span reinforcement along both directions,
support reinforcement along D1-D2 and El-E2. Provide distribution reinforcement. All
reinforcements should be provided as per codal provisions. (2+4+4=10)

2. Design the beam B2-C2 as flanged beam for span moment. Design for shear at support B for
span B2-C2. Take bending moment coefficient as 0.1 and this coefficient shall be multiplied
by the total design load and effective span for calculation of bending moment. Take shear
force coefficient as 0.6 and this coefficient shall be multiplied by the total design load to
calculate shear force. (2+4+4=10)
