MOVIE FULL VOCA-BOOK FOR YOU ☺

DOT THE I
Release Year: 2007
Slogan: «Never kiss a stranger»
Country: England | Spain
Genres : Drama | thriller
Runtime: 92 min.
Director: Matthew Parkhill
Stars: Jude Law, Norah Jones, Natalie Port-
man, Rachel Weisz

About the film Translate into Russian. Explain the grammar in underlined sentenses:

Carmen, a beautiful Spanish woman with a tendency to lose her temper at the drop of a hat, is about to be married to Barna-
by, a caring, wealthy, but slightly boring Englishman. While out with friends on her 'hen night' she encounters a stranger who
suddenly sparks a passion that has been sleeping within her. As her wedding date approaches, she finds herself struggling to
put this newcomer out of her mind, but his effect on her keeps growing stronger. What is it that he sees in her, and why does
she feel like she's being pushed inevitably into his arms? Thus, young lovers are wrapped up in a love triangle that may not be
exactly what it seems.

Review Read it before watching. Answer whether you agree with it or not after watching:

Superb! Wonderful! Ridiculously delicious! If you haven't seen a really down and dirty good suspense-filled movie in a hundred
1
years, then you won't want to miss “Dot the i”. Gael Garcia Bernal is amazing in everything he does, but even more so, here. He
seethes quietly, plots in secret and then springs into action, with his teeth bared and claws open! A definite must see! The plot
engages the audience through twist after twist of compelling drama. Things are never what they seem to be and whenever you
think you know what's going on, the story takes a dramatic turn. The actors are magnificent and believeable and the storyline
will blow your mind! This is truly the best thriller/drama film I have ever experienced. I caught the last showing at my local thea-
tre and it must have been fate. I love this movie to pieces and recommend it to everyone who's sick of the same lovey-dovey
crap that's all over the silver screen nowadays.

Exercises and tasks Do these tasks after watching with a help of the «voca-book» you have the next page be-
low:
1. Write a review of yours. That will improve your way of thinking in English.
2. Read the words using transcription and their translation from each part before watching.
3. Try to paraphrase those you find difficult to remember.
4. Read and translate contextual sentences after watching so you could make sure you’ve got all the words properly.
5. Ask your partner questions around each part, using new words and phrases.
6. Remember who said each phrase or word, in the situations you’ve just watched.
7. Retell each situation. Especially those that are important for better understanding of the plot.
8. Put as many questions as you can to each part so that your partner could find the answers and discuss them with you.
9. Discussion: Please state your ideas about what temper and plotting really are. Define these words.
10. Description: Describe Barnaby / Carmen / Kit / Tom /Theo, appearance, character, habits, things they go for
11. Describe Barnaby as if you were Carmen/ Kit/ Theo/ People at the award ceremony
12. Describe Carmen as if you were Kit / Barnaby / People at the bar (after the dance)
13. Would you like to experience such kind of passion as Carmen and Kit did? Why?
14. What do you think about the idea of reality movie. What would you do if you found out your feelings were manipulated by
someone for entertainment? Would you accept it?
15. Split into groups: Your task is to have 2 columns on a sheet of paper and write some bad points about “having a temper” in one
column and good points about it in another one. The team that names more such things wins.
16. Express your ideas: about the film, about the idea of it, about the music and the script.
17. Name all the plot lines. What lessons have you taken out this film? Discuss them in your group.
