INTRODUCTION
Surface investigation is defined as the collection of information about the physical properties
and characteristics of the subsoil material as well as the details of other geological features of the site
area. There are three types of surface investigation which are land surveying, route planning and
design planning. Land surveying is conduct to determine the land boundaries and also the topography
of the selected area. Route planning is conduct in the study area to determine active and protective
routes and mapping that travel on the available network paths in a cost-efficient manner. Design
planning is a plan or specification for the construction of an object or system or the implementation of
an activity or process, or the result of that plan or specification in the form of a prototype, product or
process. The surface investigation is going to conduct in Teluk Kemang at Port Dickson, Negeri
Sembilan. The investigations that going to be conducted at this place is land surveying and also design
planning.

OBJECTIVES

1. To gather available information of proposed site, for example:

a) Geological map
b) Topographical map
c) Land-use map
d) Aerial Photos
e) Hydrological data
f) SI reports for the nearby existing structures

2. To gather information of structure to be constructed, for example:

a) Type and function of a structure

b) Column loads
c) Local building codes

PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT

Based on the location that we have chosen are Teluk Kemang at Port Dickson, Negeri
Sembilan, we have come up with a proposed development of a resort hotel to be built at the seaside.
We came up with this idea of development due to the lack of resort at the chosen location and due to
the population of tourist visiting the area. With this development, we will be able to provide for the
lack of accommodation at our chosen location

Figure 1.0 Example of Proposed Development

The proposed development of chalet by the seaside is proposed to be developed nearby the shore and
advancing towards the sea banks. The area of compensation habitat (the site) is located opposite to
Pacific Regency Beach Resort. In this study, it was assumed that the area of compensation habitat
required would be around 3.86 Ha.

DESK STUDY (SURFACE INVESTIGATION)

No Desk Study Description

1 Proposed location - Proposed location is located at Bandar Teluk Kemang, Port
Dickson, and Negeri Sembilan. Refer figure 2.0.
- Located 11.8 km to Port Dickson town and 1.4 km to Teluk
Kemang town.
2 Site Investigation - Study the topography mapping (mountains, hills, valleys, lakes,
oceans, rivers, cities, dams, and roads) to recognizee the typical
landform patterns on site.
- Study the rrecords of previous SI reports near the site location
to identify the physical properties of the underground soil on the
site.
3 Data Acquisition - To ensure the design is met with the requirement, save the cost
and the completion of surveying is within the scheduled time.
- Collecting data such as:
a. DEM (Digital Elevation and Model)
b. Contour
c. Mean High Water Level
d. Existing BenchMark
4 Project Surveying - To collect requisite data for planning, design and execution of
engineering projects.
- Including reconnaissance survey, land survey and location
survey.
- Explore site conditions and availability of infrastructures such
as identify the existing junction and accesses control for the
machinery to enter the site.
5 Geotechnical Mapping - Site location area lies on Devonian Rock (Based on the
Geological Map of Peninsular Malaysia). Refer figure 3.0.
- It consists mainly of phyllite, schist and slate.
- Minor limestone and sandstone are well known while some
interbeds of conglomerate, chert and rare volcanic are present.
