Self-discipline is one of the most important and useful skills to achieve work
punctuality that everyone should possess. This skill is essential in every area of
life which gives you the power to stick to your decisions and follow them through,
without changing your mind, and is therefore, one of the important requirements
for achieving goals. The possession of this skill enables you to persevere with
your decisions and plans until you accomplish them within specific time frame. It
also manifests as inner strength, helping you to overcome addictions,
procrastination and laziness, and to follow through with whatever you do.

1.2 Definition
Self-discipline also known as will power behavior which is the ability to persist at
difficult or unpleasant tasks until they are timely completed. People who possess
high self-discipline are able to overcome reluctance to begin tasks and stay on
track despite distractions. Those with low self-discipline procrastinate and show
poor follow-through, often failing to complete tasks within time frame or even
they want very much to complete.

1.3 Self-Discipline At The Workplace

i) The first and most important result of workplace discipline is that it curbs
problem behavior especially for work punctuality. The importance of this
result is in direct proportion to the severity of the offense. An employee who's
making waves with office gossip may be more of an irritant than a threat, but
an employee who's causing serious workplace disruptions, such as
threatening other employees or bringing weapons to the office, must be dealt
with immediately. Ignoring an employee who is exhibiting erratic or
dangerous behavior can result in tragedy; ignoring one who is sowing discord
will lower employee morale and may reduce productivity over time.

ii) Workplace punctuality discipline, when consistently and fairly applied,

reinforces the rules you've established for workplace conduct and promotes
employee morale. When workplace rules are clear, when they apply to
everyone and when they are consistently enforced, employees know where
they stand and how they are expected to behave. They are more likely to
respect workplace rules when they know those rules will be enforced, thus
reducing the likelihood that disciplinary action will be needed in the future.

2. Work Task And Responsibilty

2.1 In order to effectively manage your staff, it is important to provide them with a
clear definition and understanding of their role, function, responsibilities and
schedule in the workplace. This will provide them with a good understanding of
the job and tasks they are to perform as an individual and within any teams they
are a part of. It also provides information on where they fit within the organisation
and who they report to, helping to avoid disputes and misunderstandings over
authority.

2.2 When defining roles and responsibilities in the workplace, you may need to
create a list of all of your staff and a list of all of the tasks and roles within your
business. You can then assign the roles to each staff member or group of staff. It
is important to remain flexible and be prepared to modify your plan in
consultation with your employees.

2.3 Once you have defined each person's roles and responsibilities, you can record
staff serving a customer this in a "job description". This can be as formal or
informal as you prefer, however it is important to record the key information. Job
descriptions provide the opportunity to clearly communicate each individual's
roles and responsibilities and also serve as a way to measure performance by
setting KPI's (Key Performance Indicators) against the tasks or requirements.

3. Staff Punctuality

3.1 The importance of punctuality on the job is often overlooked. Punctuality reflects on
your image as an employee, and it is not an exaggeration that it is an important job
skill that will contribute greatly to your success. Even punctuality in your day-to-day
life outside the job, has an effect on your image.

3.2 Here are the four main reasons punctuality is important;

i) Being on time for a meeting, an event, a class, or even a party shows that
you respect the person who set up the event as well as all the other people

attending the event. Some people always arrive ten or more minutes late to
everything. They just seem to have an internal clock that is lagging behind.
Usually when they do arrive, they mutter an apology under the guise of
telling everyone how busy they are. This tells me that they think tardiness
shows others that their life and their activities are more important than those
of others attending the meeting. Rather than interpreting a person’s

tardiness as a sign of importance, it is more likely interpreted as a sign of

disrespect.
ii) Punctuality shows you can be counted on. If you are always punctual,
people will naturally assume that they can count on you. If you arrive to work
on time, hand in your assignments on time, are punctual to meetings and
functions; your boss and co-workers will think of you as a dependable
person.
iii) Punctuality tells others that in addition to knowing the importance of the
meeting or assignment, you also know the importance of your part of team. If
you always wait until the last minute to start a project or if you are always
late to meetings, your tardiness tells your boss that you don’t understand the
importance of the work and you don’t understand your integral part on the

work team. As a supervisor, all things being equal, I would much rather give
added responsibilities to those who don’t make me wonder if they’ll finish on
time and those who don’t make me feel as if they are throwing something

together at the last minute.

iv) Your consistent punctuality adds value to the event or assignment.
Punctuality tells not only your boss but all participants that you value that
event or assignment. It adds to their perception that it is important as well.
In light of the advantages of demonstrating your respect and understanding
of the importance of a scheduled meeting, event or assignment, it is worth
putting effort into adding punctuality as one of your attributes.

4. Job Delivery Punctuality

4.1 Job delivery punctuality involved time management. Time management is the
act or process of planning and exercising conscious control over the amount of
