Serena Jameka Williams, born 26th September 1981, is an American former number 1
world player in women's single tennis. She has won 23 Grand Slam singles titles.
Williams holds the most Grand Slam titles in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles
combined among active players. She is also the most female recent player to have won a
Grand Slam title on each surface (hard, clay and grass) in one 2015. She is also, together
with her older sister Venus, the most recent player to have held all four Grand Slam women's
doubles titles in 2009 and 2010.
Williams is primarily a baseline player, and her game is built around taking immediate
control of rallies with her powerful and consistent serve, return of serve, and forceful
groundstrokes from both her forehand and backhand swings. Williams's forehand is
considered to be among the most powerful shots in the women's game, as that of her
double-handed backhand. Williams's aggressive play, a "high risk" style, is balanced in part
by her serve, which most say is the greatest in women's tennis history. Despite being thought
of primarily as a baseline player, Williams is a strong volleyer, choosing to finish points off at
the net, possessing a very solid and powerful overhead, and having deft touch at the net.
Although many think of Williams as only an offensive player, she also plays a strong
defensive game.

A. is skillful in playing tennis in any surface
B. is the first rank in woman’s single tennis this year

STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE TO USING YOUR FOOD PROCESSOR

1. Plug it into the mains.

2. Attach your jug to the base. Choose your blade or attachment.
3. Once you’ve fixed your attachment in place, it’s time to place the food processor’s lid.
With the funnel to the left of the handle, slide the lid round anti-clockwise to click into
place.
4. Switch it on by pressing the power button on your model. If you need to use a pulse
function, use the pulse button if your model has one. If not, you can try pressing the on-
and-off button repeatedly until you achieve the desired texture for what you’re making.
5. If you’re using a slicing disc, now’s the time to process your ingredients. Once the motor is
running, use the funnel cover to push through your chosen ingredients to the grating or
slicing disc – as well as adding pressure to move the ingredients through the funnel and
disc, and on into the bowl.
6. If you’re blitzing things into a puree, you can simply watch for a few seconds while your
machine does its work. If you’re using a disc attachment, then you can watch the bowl fill
up with neatly processed ingredients as you work everything through the funnel.
7. Carefully remove any blades or attachment and wash with warm soapy water. Scrape any
leftover ingredients out of the bowl and off the lid and funnel cover using a soft cloth.
8. Reassemble your food processor so it’s ready to go the next time you want to use it.

When I was young, the kitchen had an invisible 'stop' sign put there by my mom. “No,
you cannot enter here!” she always said to me. She was a strict and neat mom.
One day, I sneaked through and stepped inside the kitchen. I decided to begin my first
experience as a chef by making an omelet.
I set to work so quietly. I prepared everything then I started chopping. I cut my finger.
Ouch! There was no bleeding but it was so painful. Then, I cracked the egg and put it into the
bowl. I grabbed the chili powder, salt from the kitchen cabinet and whisked it. I lighted the
stove and put the big frying pan on it and poured some oil in it. Poor me, I spilled some on the
floor.
At this point, everything was going perfectly. While the omelet sizzled in the pan, I could
hardly find the spatula to flip the omelet. Finally, I found it and hurriedly turned the omelet over.
While I was busy taking it out in a plate, someone came up behind me. It was mom. I
was dumbstruck. She scolded me for making the kitchen in a mess, the drawers all open, and
some salt and chili powder on the stoves and countertop.
She found a fit punishment for me. I had to eat the burnt omelet. I realized it wasn't as
bad as it looked. I was happy with my accomplishment, even if it was a bit burnt.

A sea urchin is spherical in shape and covered in spines or cilia similar to those of a
porcupine. Although they are slow-moving, sea urchins have some means of protecting
themselves. Adult sea urchins are usually well protected against most predators by their
strong and sharp spines, which can be venomous in some species.
Very small tube-shaped feet among the spines help them move slowly along the ocean
floor. They come in just about every color, from black to white. They range in size from about
an inch in diameter up to 14 inches. On average, they weigh about one pound. Because there
are nearly one thousand types of sea urchins, they can vary significantly in appearance. You
can easily identify most of them by their spiny exteriors, but some have only short hairs all
over their bodies. Others have rounded-off spines that are not sharp like typical urchin spines.
They have no detectable eyes, but experts suspect its entire body is a compound eye that is
sensitive to light.
They live in all the earth’s oceans, at depths ranging from the tide line to 15,000 feet.
Because they cannot swim, they live on the sea floor. Some live in the shallows near beaches
where the sun shines. Some others live so deep below the surface they are in total darkness.
Barren underwater areas have dense populations of these creatures, and populations nearer
to the shore are the densest by far. While they live throughout the world, the greatest numbers
live in temperate and tropical ocean habitats in the shallows up to ten meters down where the
plants they eat are plentiful.

28. What is sea urchins’ pines for?

A. Shielding from predators.
B. Helping them to move.
C. Producing venom.
D. Getting their prey.

Barren underwater areas have dense populations of these creatures, and populations nearer
to the shore are the densest by far. While they live throughout the world, the greatest numbers
live in temperate and tropical ocean habitats in the shallows up to ten meters down where the
plants they eat are plentiful.

29. Why do sea urchins live mostly in tropical ocean? Because they ….
A. live in depths more than 15,000 feet
B. depend on the sun light to live
C. can find their food easily
D. are sensitive to light

Read the following text !

We usually think of viral respiratory infections, like the common cold, as mild
nuisances that pass in a few days. While most respiratory viral infections are mild, some
can trigger serious complications, either directly or indirectly. However, coronavirus has
proven to be different. Of those infected, it is estimated that around one percent will die
from infection.
Although we do not know much about this new virus, we learn that it often
causes pneumonia, an infection of the lungs which produces pus and fluid and reduces
the lungs’ ability to absorb oxygen. Of the first 99 people with severe infection, three-
quarters had pneumonia involving both lungs. Around 14 percent appeared to have lung
damage caused by the immune system, while 11 percent suffered from multi-organ
system failure. Others are at risk of complications from being treated in hospitals, such as
acquiring other infections.
Stopping a pandemic requires using all the available tools we have. It is crucial to
practice good hygiene. After all, wearing masks and social distancing help reduce your
chance of being exposed to the virus or spreading it to others, but these measures are not
enough. Experts continue to conduct more studies about the effect of COVID-19
vaccination on severity of illness from COVID-19, as well as its ability to keep people from
spreading the virus that causes COVID-19. Experts believe that getting a COVID-19
vaccine may also help keep you from getting seriously ill even if you get COVID-19.

31. How can we lessen the spread of COVID-19?

We need to ….
A. put off the mask
B. cure the common cold
C. stand close each other
D. keep away from the crowd

Poul la Cour

Poul la Cour has been acknowledged as a great Danish wind-turbine tunnel

scientist. Poul la Cour (1846-1908) was known as a scientist, teacher and inventor. He
was born in Aarhus in 1846. In 1869, he completed a highly praised dissertation in the
new discipline, meteorology. Afterwards, he became the deputy head of department when
the Danish Meteorological Institute opened in 1872. In 1878, Poul la Cour became a
teacher at Askov folk high school.
La Cour was a passionate inventor, experimenting with telegraphy. This earned
him the nickname “the Danish Edison”. In 1891, he built a test wind turbine at Askov folk
high school supplying the school with energy for gas lamps. At the time, storing wind
energy for the certain days without wind was an issue as is the case today. Poul la Cour
experimented with turning the wind energy into hydrogen in order to store the energy.
Poul la Cour became famous for his groundbreaking experiments with wind turbine
models in small-scale wind tunnels he built in 1896, i.e. 25 year after the World’s first wind
tunnel has been built in Great Britain. He was the first person to carry out experimental
aerodynamic research for wind turbines. Based on the experiments, he wrote the book
“Forsøgsmøllen” about wind turbines. La Cour described the features of the ideal wind
turbine for electricity generation, with fewer blades, an aerodynamic profile and the
smallest possible bevel. Despite the development of new technologies and materials, the
features described in “Forsøgsmøllen” to a large extend correspond with the turbines of
today.
