Chapter 3: Challenges and Proposed Courses of Action for

Improvement
3.1 Observed in the Organization

All through my internship program I have observed a few aspects of this branch. Some of them
are positive and some of them are negative. First I am going to talk about my positive
observation then my negative observation.

3.1.1 Communication problem


The big issue of City Bank is the communication problem. Lack of communication creates
pressure and Bank faces many difficulties.
3.1.2Not Have Enough Employee

Gulshan 1 Branch has a lot of pressure compare to other branches but this branch does not have
enough employees. If one employee is absent or on a leave another employee has to take duties
of that employee along with his or her own duty. In customer service there are only five
employees so it is impossible for them to attend customers all the time so sometimes it happens
customer wait for a long time.

3.1.3 Proper documentation

According to the Manager Operation, gulshan 1 Branch, The City Bank Limited, Clients
sometimes do not have the asked documents needed. Such as- Trade license, National Card, TIN
certificate, Company’s Visiting card etc. Proper documentation is a big challenge for the
respective bank. According to the Manager Operation, proper documentation helps the client for
building a good and positive image towards bank.
3.1.4 Need more Equipment
This branch does not have enough printers and photocopy machines so when one employee is
doing print another employee has to wait.

3.2 Academic Preparation:

3.2.1 Mismatch:
There is mismatch between assigned tasks and other operational functions of the organization
with my academic preparation during the work. The differences found between the academic
preparation and practical work.

 Loan
They do not follow proper rules of loan when sanctioning loan to the clients, they only
provide loan by their management decision.
 Lacking
In our academic degree, I gather knowledge in different the sectors. But all are the
theoretical knowledge. I barely acquire a practical knowledge. That’s why it is quite
difficult to match practical work with the theoretical knowledge we have. It may be
possible to get practical knowledge along with the academic knowledge is run through
practical knowledge.
 Lack of Corporate Environment
Environment can play role while working any corporate office similarly at first, I cannot

3.2.2 Missing Knowledge and Skills:

 Communication problem:

During my university life I have learnt from my honorable faculty that how to deal with a people
whom I do not know. So that was our academic knowledge which is provided by the university
but during that time we only just know that in a theoretical way. So this thing which I faced a
problem in a practical way during our internship program. So in that time I faced a problem a
little bit.

 Excel knowledge:

So in my university career I have taken some little knowledge about excel through my faculties.
But that knowledge is less than my requirements where I am supposed to work with. Cause my
university taught me how to use the excel and but this isn’t taught me to how actually doing a
work in an excel sheet in a practical way. So city bank gave me the opportunity to gain some
ideas on how to use an excel sheet.

During our university life they taught us how to speak frequently in English. But practically they
didn’t teach use how to talk in a phone with a client in a very smarter way. Which I have learnt
from my bank.
