RECORDER, DIGITAL FLIGHT−DATA − REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

1. General
A. The maintenance procedures that follow are for the removal and installation of the digital
flight−data recorder (FDR). The digital FDR is installed in the aft equipment compartment
at FS755.

2. Job Set−Up
Subtask 31−31−01−910−001
WARNING: OBEY ALL THE SAFETY PRECAUTIONS WHEN YOU DO MAINTENANCE ON
OR NEAR ELECTRICAL/ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT. IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS,
YOU CAN CAUSE INJURIES TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE
EQUIPMENT.
A. Obey all the electrical/electronic safety precautions (Ref. TASK 24−00−00−910−801).

B. Open, safety, and tag the circuit breakers that follow:

3. Procedure
Subtask 31−31−01−020−001
Refer to Figure 401.
A. Remove the digital FDR (2) as follows:
(1) If mounting tray (3) has wing nuts (1), do as follows:
WARNING: WEAR EYE PROTECTION WHEN YOU CUT LOCKWIRE. WHEN
LOCKWIRE IS CUT, PIECES OF IT CAN HIT YOUR EYES AND
CAUSE INJURIES.
(a) Remove and discard the lockwire from the wing nuts (1) on the front of the
mounting tray (3).
(b) Release the two wing nuts (1) that hold the FDR (2) to the mounting tray (3).
(2) If the mounting tray (3) has locknuts (1), do as follows:
(a) Loosen the locknuts (1) on the front of the mounting tray (3).
(3) Carefully pull the digital FDR (2) from the mounting tray (3). Do not lift the digital
FDR (2) until it is clear of the electrical connector (4). Remove the digital FDR (2).
(4) Install protective caps on the mounting tray (3) and the digital FDR electrical
connector (4).
(5) When you replace the digital FDR (2), if necessary, remove the underwater locator
device (ULD) from the digital FDR (2) (Ref. TASK 31−31−05−000−801).

Installation of the Digital FDR

2. Job Set−Up

A. Make sure that the aircraft is in the same configuration as in the removal task.

3. Procedure
Subtask 31−31−01−420−001
Refer to Figure 401.
A. Install the digital FDR (2) as follows:
(1) If you replaced the digital FDR (2), install the ULD if necessary (Ref. TASK
31−31−05−400−801).
(2) Remove the protective caps from the mounting tray (3) and the digital FDR
electrical connector (4).
(3) Put the digital FDR (2) on the mounting tray (3). Carefully push the digital FDR (2)
into the mounting tray (3) to engage the electrical connector (4).
(4) If mounting tray (3) has wing nuts (1), do as follows:
(a) Set the two wing nuts (1) in front of the mounting tray (3) to engage the FDR
mounting−tray projections. Tighten the wing nuts (1).

WARNING: WEAR EYE PROTECTION WHEN YOU CUT LOCKWIRE. WHEN


LOCKWIRE IS CUT, PIECES OF IT CAN HIT YOUR EYES AND
CAUSE INJURIES.
CAUTION: DO NOT USE THE LOCKWIRE AGAIN AFTER ITS REMOVAL.
USED LOCKWIRE CAN BE WEAKER WHEN IT IS REMOVED.
WEAK LOCKWIRE CAN BREAK AND CAN RESULT IN DAMAGE
TO THE EQUIPMENT.
(b) Safety the wing nuts (1) with lockwire.
(5) If the mounting tray (3) has locknuts (1), do as follows:
(a) Tighten the locknuts (1).

4. Close Out
